in b4 thread descends into bunch of backpackers trying to prove how hiphop they are and how mainstream hiphop isn't actually hiphop etc
what is of value and wisdom for one man seems nonsense to another.

edit: oh wow, germany's most mainstream "gangster" rapper sampled dimmu borgir.hasezwei wrote:here in germany a rapper was actually sued by a french gothic band whose piano tracks he "sampled" (there's a difference between sampling and just taking a WHOLE track and adding a beat). his old beats are killer though, check this one:![]()
(i wonder how german rap sounds if you can't understand the lyrics, probably better... don't like his rapping)
timbaland seems legit tho, of course at least mentioning the sampled artists would be nice or paying some royalties but in the end... his beats are dope as fuck. and what's the difference between cutting a loop from a funk vinyl or an indian cd?
WAIT A MINUTE i swear i clicked the edit button
why can't we delete our posts btw?

Give it 5 years and he'll be sampling Araab Muzik
Re: Timbaland loves sampling arab music
i dunno the video just makes timbo look more dope to me(im not even a big fan). I love the art of sampling and each intance seems to me he did quite a bit to it to get it fit and sound right, not a whole lot of chopping going on but lots of eqing and layering etc. to have it sound right how it did in the final product. arab music is pretty obscure to most in the us so i credit him for looking outside the box vs say puffy who got real big off sampling things that were already hits in the us or close to it at one time.
like i said im not a hug fan of his beats but i dont knock him for looking to arab beats to sample.
more sampling!!!!

I wasn't agreeing with the sentiments of the video when I made this thread by the way, I've just always been interested in sample sources.
Ayo Technology is one of my favourite hip-hop instrumentals
Some of the laziest sampling I've ever heard is on the Gonjasufi album.

can't believe people are saying Timbaland's a whack producer tbh.
Re: Timbaland loves sampling arab music
Serious. Music would be a lot different if there was no Timbo... Also lol @ a bunch of white kids on the Internet talking about what is or isn't hip hop... It's like Murs said, "if it bumps in the hood, it's hip hop, shut your fat mouth"
His work with Aaliyah and Magoo is some of my favorites, ayo technology is AMAZING. I'll never forget when joker mixed nelly furtado's Showtime with a bunch of his stuff, seems appropriate
Respect

Re: Timbaland loves sampling arab music
I get what the gist of your message is, people shouldn't talk about hip hop on the internet.
Re: Timbaland loves sampling arab music
we can talk about hip hop all we want, we should probably just discuss it instead of trying to dictate what is or isn't hip hop. that discussion is an infinite loop (see the millions of threads on what is or isn't dubstep). thats what my message is

Re: Timbaland loves sampling arab music
Timbaland is an awesome producer. Some of his songs are just simple beat flips like the arab ones but he's made lots of amazing stuff from scratch and his ear for samples is up there with the best

Re: Timbaland loves sampling arab music
I think its jokes how timbo always gets called out about this samples...
Never heard anyone say the same about Dilla or DJ Cam..
Timbaland is a badman producer, has a sick ear for a sample.

But don't you know that you can only be really original and creative if you sound as much as possible like something from before 1995?capo ultra wrote:in b4 thread descends into bunch of backpackers trying to prove how hiphop they are and how mainstream hiphop isn't actually hiphop etc

I know, I deliberately simplified it in order to make a point about how stupid your argument is.fractal wrote:we can talk about hip hop all we want, we should probably just discuss it instead of trying to dictate what is or isn't hip hop. that discussion is an infinite loop (see the millions of threads on what is or isn't dubstep). thats what my message is
whether or not the discussion is a constant loop it's only by engaging in constant debate about the nature of something that you'll ever get to grips with it. it's not a question that can ever be answered but just having the discussion is relevant and important. it's only by asking yourself what hip hop is that you ever push its boundaries.

Re: Timbaland loves sampling arab music
there's no difference. as time goes on, i realize the whole timbo being a target boils down to the fact that he's synonymous with a lot more popular hip hop, therefore the infareds are on him. there's no difference. and in this case it shows he's reaching for some next sample sources.hasezwei wrote: timbaland seems legit tho, of course at least mentioning the sampled artists would be nice or paying some royalties but in the end... his beats are dope as fuck. and what's the difference between cutting a loop from a funk vinyl or an indian cd?
heard the one dilla joint with guilty simpson?
and the original
and that right there is blatantly blatant to the most blatant degree. no one shitting their pampers over that.
i mean you don't see madlib getting hate for what he did here:
people just like to complain, bitch and moan. some of the youtube comments under the various "timbo is stealing" videos are awesomely laughable. people are fucking idiot "geek muhfuckas" as phonte once said.
geeks!!!!
