Re: Girlfriends
I just ended a serious relationship and i can say that all the pain and joy and emotion that went into that experience is a big influence on my creative drive. if i was pissed of at her i would write a banger, feeling sentimental? make a soft tune with female vox etc etc.
being a full time touring dj and producer would be really hard to hold down a relationship tho.

I think the thing that people sort of half discover is this: that passion can make for some great music, and this has been known for thousands of years.jsills wrote:I just ended a serious relationship and i can say that all the pain and joy and emotion that went into that experience is a big influence on my creative drive. if i was pissed of at her i would write a banger, feeling sentimental? make a soft tune with female vox etc etc.

Sadly many people only get really passionate about love lost or gone sour - if anything at all - and need a safety valve or constructive outlet for it lest they drink themselves to death or something. However, there are other kinds of passion and they can translate just as well into musical inspiration. The key is recognizing them and consciously attempting to derive inspiration from 'em.
It's interesting to me that politics (which used to be another inspirational passion for many) have faded to the background in much music these days.
And yeah, being a full time touring performer would be tough on any relationship unless you had an iron will. Can you imagine turning down several Japanese groupies - at the same time?

Just because you are a character, does not mean you have character.

I think that would depend on the girl I was with, this current is too cool to fuck things up with.alphacat wrote:jsills wrote:Can you imagine turning down several Japanese groupies - at the same time?
Most any other girl, I'd be unable to maintain an Iron will. . . How tragic...

A conglomeration of my old tearout tunes I like, and my new ones I don't

Re: Girlfriends
truth about the politics thing. rage against the machine was a great example of being pissed off at the state of the world and using that energy to unite people. cant think of much politically motivated dance music tho....alphacat wrote:I think the thing that people sort of half discover is this: that passion can make for some great music, and this has been known for thousands of years.jsills wrote:I just ended a serious relationship and i can say that all the pain and joy and emotion that went into that experience is a big influence on my creative drive. if i was pissed of at her i would write a banger, feeling sentimental? make a soft tune with female vox etc etc.

i hangout with a pretty chill girl atm, she's fine with just watching stupid youtube vids while i produce (she's also got better headphones than me
it only gets really annoying when I'm writing my bassline and tweaking the volum lfo and she starts blasting cheesy japanese electro in the background

I combine the two. I give her a seeing too and slip a few contact mics up her. Atmospherical delights!

Re: Girlfriends
I don't have any groupies and I always find myself more inspired when I'm happy than when I'm down so I guess it's sticking with my girlfriend for me. She knows I'm married to music though and that she's just the mistress.
Re: Girlfriends
Most musicians are of a feeling nature, they are very emotional people that have the need to express this emotional energy in songs. People how rank their feeling over there thinking, generally regard relationships as a high Priority.Genophonics wrote:girls are only around to get off in anyways, it's not THAT big of a deal. Re: Girlfriends
Just like a girl may spend a good 2 hours colouring her hair or getting her nails done, You spend a good couple of hours or more on production. Let her know you're serious about it. However IMO the bottom line is Production + Serious Relationship results in one not working.
Re: Girlfriends
Man, there is some nasty stories, lucky for me I dont have any of these problems. My Girlfriend loves dubstep ( Well totally loves music of any kinda ), she is always sending me new stuff. She does photography and stuff for me and is always willing to help me and have a listen to something.
I think if she could produce, she would be amazing as she picks up the things i tell her so quickly and has an amazing ear for music. (I might have to let her free on logic one day scary thought)
I think i just got lucky, I hate girls that dont understand music at all and just listen to your typical chart stuff
