Hell the ONLY really different piece of software I've ever seen is MAX MSP/Pure Data and to get results (not even good ones) you need to study up REAL hard.

Also I'd like to say if you're interested don't overlook Pure Data (Pd) just because it's free, it's just as powerful as MAX, but it isn't as good on the whole GUI thing and the help files can be a bit more obtuse.

plus - take advantage of the NI database - Reaktor is worth the money alone, to just use other peoples creations.

sounds awesome, 80 bucks is a lot tho... now the page says that the demo's only restrictions are that you can't save plugins and the host can't recall the state if you close it. now it's a reaktor ensemble, can't i just reverse-engineer the demo to work around those restrictions???
i'm just curious, i'm really a noob at reaktor so I wouldnt be able to do that anyway.

Built for the KVR Developer Challenge 2007, The Element of Surprise is a fun little freeware synth that is designed for one purpose only...to make really cool randomly generated sounds for fast inspiration and experiments in spontaneous song writing. (See the manual for a great writing exercise.)

The interface is simple, but under the hood there is a full synth with multiple oscillators, filters, various types of modulation, and effects, all optimized to provide a wide variety of usable randomly generated sounds.

Just click the exclaimation point, get a cool sound...fast, easy, fun, and (hopefully) inspirational.

Features:
- A full synth under the hood

- Randomizer tweaked to produce potentially useful results more often than not

- Possibly the easiest envelope control ever...one color coded, click and drag square.

- Optional envelope randomization

- Velocity control
:6: Set the time machine forward a couple years and...

I just discovered the Element of Surprise synth; gotta say this thing is a lot of fun for when you just wanna make a tune and not make sounds so much. Almost every single sound it's come up with so far has been very, very usable... my only complaint is that I can't save sounds I like as patches!

Seriously though, anyone looking for a fun, free, good-sounding little plug to kickstart song inspiration... this is a good one. The other synths on the Ugo site are pretty cool too.

Can't get a download link for that. Clickin on it takes you to their main page then it's nowhere to be found.

Can either of you or anyone help?
