oil is such an important resource, its mind boggling how much our society depends on it, it is literally the blood of western society.
every step of the food production process depends on it, from the obvious like transport, to things like packaging, fertilisers and pesticides.
alot of the wars fought in the twentieth century have been shaped around control of oil, not actually ideological battles (although obvs that was a factor)

i didnt mean the whole human race will starve, but i think a great deal will, especially with climate factored in, floods and droughts across large parts of the world have huge impact.

the western world will come off relatively ok i hope, we seem to be fairly good at exploitation. worst case scenario is the collapse of civilization as we know it.
yeah oil will be a bigger problem first youre right.

but i reckon collapse of the oil trade would be a good thing personally. if society could not adapt quick enough (which i dont think it will) it would break down. we would essentially have to start from scratch, on a more level playing field. shit would get very real very quick.
well, Hemp is the most resourceful plant in the world. It can be used for clothing, medicine, & most importantly OIL.
but anyone could grow it... would break the oligopoly of the oil companies thats for sure.

Nope.
what then?
Population is going to trend downward when it hits 12 billion, somehwere around 2050-2060, at least according to current accepted research.

"In these projections, world population peaks at
9.22 billion in 2075. Population therefore grows
slightly beyond the level of 8.92 billion projected
for 2050 in the 2002 Revision, on which these projections are based. However, after reaching its
maximum, world population declines slightly and
then resumes increasing, slowly, to reach a level
of 8.97 billion by 2300, not much different from
the projected 2050 figure"

Oil itself isn't a problem, there are dozens of other energy sources that are arguably inexhaustible. The problem is going to get money invested in these technologies to make them cheaper against the oil companies' will.

Fuck all you naysayers. It's all about thorium. Cheap, and practically unlimited nuclear fission that the hippies cant complain about!

As for me, I have nothing but good feelings about the future. :D

Once the current generation in power dies off, we'll be able to start instituting some changes as to how we power/run our society, and I hope thorium is included on our new list of priorities.

It boggles the mind that while people on the one hand talk about overpopulation, we also hear about how there aren't enough people of working age to pay for all our public services, and yet millions of people are still unemployed! Plus ca change.
