Re: Chiptune/8bit
Two basic tips:
1. Put a fast vibrato on a square/saw with full filter on for a standard lead.
2. Put out a chord with one note playing at a time running once or twice or a couple of times. For example C E G C (last C one octave up) or C E G C E G C E etc etc. Then you shrink them together so they are almost playing at the same time, sounding like one hit (if using Reason just use the Double function in the Tool bar a few times) and voila, you have a typical chip sound. Great for offbeat hits for example. Also try repeating it and use it like a pad.
I've done a lot of 8bit / chip influenced dubstep. Check it out and just give me a shout if you want to know something else:

you'll probably want a good bit crusher too.
Get involved with the 8-bit community, they're welcoming and they'll help you out with resources and tools of the trade and if you ever want to make a specific sound you can always ask here, backwards engineer those vst presets, or ask 8-bit artists who know what they're doing.
Hope that helps to some degree.

I finished my first one! :corndance

It was honestly much easier than I thought it would be in regards to arranging the structure and sequencing it...the whole thing was made mostly in two sessions.

Re: Chiptune/8bit
as its been mentioned nothing beats a classic gameboy and a cart flashed with lsdj (little sound dj) search up on it, this is where you will get that crisp 8 bit sound you want btw the lsdj license is only a buck
