New Producer - Need Feedback

Post by MineShaft » Mon Dec 27, 2010 1:58 pm

Hi everyone,
I would very much appreciate any comments/constructive criticism that would help me in becoming better at this (comments needed on the mixing, as well as the creative aspect).
This is a remix of a track I recorded for a band. The original recording has been done in Pro Tools, the remix in Ableton.
Thanks already!

Thank you, it means much to me :)
Soundcloud did something strange with the bass though, it sometimes sounds like if you would blow directly in a microphone.

How long did it take you to make this, start to finish?

Thank you,
Well, since my goal was to get to know Ableton (since I normally work in another DAW and it was my first time in ableton), I tried to figure out as much of the the features of ableton and experiment with the features that were knew for me (like VSTi's, and normally I never work with midi). I started in august, made about a hundred different versions (in different genres too) and got this one out end of octobre.
I guess I worked about 30 hours on it, mostly messing with ableton and experimenting :).
I feel like I have got a nice technical layer now to continue, but I was still wondering if there were any stuff that could have been done differently on this one.
Does anyone feel like the drums are overcompressed (mostly on the snare)?

Thank you so much for the feedback!

typical shitty commercial dubstep...with no dub roots whatsoever
Sorry to be a prick
But that terribly chicks voice sampled...just highlights everything thats wrong with dubstep

I'll take that in account next time I make something (you're not a prick).
But please note that this was a remix for fun/learning and for a befriended band. Without any vocal samples, a remix of a rock song wouldn't really resemble the original anymore.

But hey, hopefully better next time ;)
Anymore constructive criticism? Maybe a little bit more specific?
Thank you for your comments!
