-Ghast- wrote:My problem isn't really even the tune, it's his "DJing". I was one of the dickheads standing behind him for the beginning of his set because they were letting people on the lineup chill back there due to the horrible crowd layout of this show. He doesn't wear headphones because he's simply triggering prewarped tracks and playing with retriggering the whole time in a hyperactive manner to look like he's actually doing something.

Luckily I was on the inside stage shortly after playing DnB which you can hear in the beginning of the video :P
Yeah he does look like he's doing absolutely nothing in the most frantic way possible

And that's why it's not that good

you don't need a lot of elements to make something sound good, there's actually quite a bit more going on than just 'space and sub', although i can understand that you can't really go that far with something that minimal without it sounding all the same

that's the difference with skrillex who overcrowds everything with obnoxious synths and cheesy vocals.
I think that's what he was pointing out. It was a vague statement but he was exhibiting it as a prime example of how powerful minimalism is, not dissing it.
i was aiming it at WatchYourStep
Woosh, right over my head. Fair play.

Listen, whether you love or hate his music, you need to know this: Skrillex is not a DJ. He does not claim to be a DJ. He does it simply because that's the only way to make money as a producer in the digital age of pirating music. In fact, a lot of the top producers on both ambient and tear out sides of Dubstep are in the same boat. Deadmau5 as well, does not in any way consider himself a DJ, but it's really the only way for him to go out and perform for people.

For those who don't know, this acronym stands for "rolling on the floor laughing". This fellow had indicated to us that the above quotation has caused him to be overwhelmed with spasms of laughter to the point of losing muscle control and falling to the floor, where his violent joyful movements resulted in his body turning along its z axis while further waves of laughter wash over him.

Not massively into Skrillex myself, but fairplay to him for making a living out of this thing called dubstep that he's labelled his music as. There are not many people in the world that can actually make a living out of what they love doing, especially when it comes to music. Might not necessarily be the most deserving producer to be making a living out of it, but at least somebody is.

Bad production shouldn't be promoted.

He claims to be a dj the moment he starts getting paid to dj surely?! If you are not any good then you shouldn't be doing it regardless of your production skills. Though I guess if people will pay for it then why not
