I worked in the racing industry which is funded in a very similar way to films. All sponsorship and private funding. If someone else its paying the bills you leave them to it even if its a shit film or if they are more worried about the car being clean than winning, bill payer wins evertime. You are being brought in for one thing alone, to help draw together someone elses film with sound! Its always awesome to be creative but its a nice challenge to build your sound to something specific, i.e. to help set a mood of a scene thats already there.
I noticed you said the idea of it being a "low budget" movie has taken the pressure of a bit? DONT LET IT! remember there are endless volumes of budding producers out there that would snap there hand off just as you did. The pressure is on my friend and its time to pull it out the bag, wont just be tracks either. Will be sound effects, sound enhancements. You gotta nail it matey coz your name will be on the credits, and someone in there that is organising this film and its budget will know this

. when its watched back by the writers and film producers and they say blimey this film would be shite if not for this awesome soundline.... they know who to phone when the next BIGGER budget film comes along

.
Nice place to build from bud and either way a top oppurtunity. SO GRASP IT!
Peace and goodluck, keep us posted !
Fuck, and then i read this.... Its SOOOO Bad tho... I'm at least going to meet with them again. See if they've addressed their camera issue and examine the mics. It's got 3 main things wrong, as I see them. The scriptwriter/director is Mormon. That's not the problem in and of itself. However, as is typical of Mormon culture, that means sheltered, conservative, and without a firm foot in reality regarding the views of the rest of the world. Problem two, he, nor many of the other people involved, came off as particularly smart to me. There were some cringe inducing misuses of vocabulary that made me question everything. And 3, yeah, the last film this director scriptwriter whatever was involved in (fuck knows if he was cleaning the drapes or shining eddie griffin's shoes or what) DID have a $500k budget. NOT this one. There's a budget, but i don't think there are K's anywhere in it.
And furthermore, that acting. I think some actors, at least have been replaced.
And even further, the script. I've heard the guy who wrote the script speak. Not exactly encouraged here...
I'm honestly trying to decide if its better to make it sound good, or leave my name off it entirely. blah
