CDJ Midi ?!
hello,
need some help with my setup, atm I have 2x denon dns1200 and I use Virtual Dj, so I guess i use the midi mod of my cdj. Just to clarify I play the tunes with my laptop and control them with my cdj. ( I know cliché noob dj software, but it works fine at home).
Now I'm considering start playing at little parties and such, but there the standard is always some kind of expensive pioneer cdj and vinyl .
If I arrive there with my laptop full of (good) tunes, what hardware should I bring with me? Can I just buy the traktor pro software and use the midi option of the pioneer cdj over there?
Don't know if that's such a good option since everybody seems to be talking about timecode and stuff...
plz help me out here, all help is highly appreciated, please notice that i prefer to spend my money on tunes rather than on high priced hardware (like serato)

Re: CDJ Midi ?!
Should bring your Denon decks anyway, doesn't really mater what you use just how you use it.
I'm running on Numark the now and I play gigs most weeks.
Timecode is a mp3 file you can download from VDJ website that allows you to manipulate your music on VDJ/Traktor etc by routing the noise it produces to the input of your soundcard which the software picks up and makes the selected track react to.
USB is a much better method as it's less hassle in the end.
If you can get the crowd going with what you got, you're golden and don't be worried about it if it goes a bit awry, everyone has to start somewhere.
Wish you luck on your endeavour!!

Re: CDJ Midi ?!
you're suggesting i should bring my cdj's ? :O I've never seen any1 doing that tbh
Just plug laptop and bring your serato is what happens mostly?
Guess i'll have to buy software like traktor( without hardware) and just plug when I arrive, those pioneers can't be that different from my denon's..?

I didn't get that they already had Pioneers there. If you got Serato and the Pioneer's can connect to your laptop then you are sorted!

Re: CDJ Midi ?!
np, but i'm afraid you didn't read the last part neither :p
i said "please notice that i prefer to spend my money on tunes rather than on high priced hardware (like serato) "
So now im left with the questions: A Is timecode > midi function of your cdj B If I would buy Traktor software only, Can I just arrive at a gig, plug my laptop and use the midi mod of the standard pioneer cdj?

Re: CDJ Midi ?!
Okay, going on the basis that pioneers have usb to a laptop/pc, you shouldn't need a timecoded mp3 as your software should pick up that the pioneers are there and manipulate the tune. None the less, download it free from the virtual dj website anyway and experiment about before the gig. ( for virtual dj software )
Otherwise get tracktor(software) and it automatically does pick up the Pioneers as a midi controller. ( at least i think it should anyway )
If that doesn't make sense you can shoot me in the head and tell me to go to bed for it has been 3 days since I last got 40 winks!
Go insomnia!!..

Re: CDJ Midi ?!
the timecode is free to download, just burn it to 2 CDs and use the CDJs to control virtual DJ.
