Roland Juno 106

I have a Roland Juno 106, unfortunately one of the voices has gone. I was wondering, if I were to run the Juno into ableton via midi, would I then be able to play the Juno ok through the internal midi piano roll? Without having the problem of the broken voice?

haha I know man! It's a well known fact that the voices on the juno eventually go, I just love the sound of it too much to let it go. I need to know though, as I'm about to buy an audio interface for it, and I'll be seriously peeved if I got it to then find out the Juno still doesn't work through it.

don't you have a friend with a midi interface or even a midi keyboard you can connect to it to test?

more than likely, but there may be an issue somewhere else (hella longshot, but worth a try)

well it's just random keys that sometimes wont play, no key is forever completely broken, so like if one goes it will only be for a minute or so, then come back but another one will go just after that. Does anyone know of somebody that has had the same problem with the voices when the Juno is standalone, but then got it to work routing it through a DAW?

I have a juno 106 with exact same problem.

You can try one of the three poly modes that juno has. In one setting you can play mono, so only one voice is used. In another, the voices are played in order, so if you play three notes it will use the 1,2 and third voice chip in that order so that means you can still play triads. One thing is that you have to run a diagnostic test to identify which chip is fried. In my case its no. 4. Google that or the manual for Juno.

The way you change the poly modes is when you press the poly 1 and 2 together or just 1 or 2. Or something like that.

ahhh yes, I have tried this, my 5th chip is broken. So does this mean the problem will still occur even when i run the midi notes into ableton?

You are still able to have 4 note polyphony in one of the poly modes. When you play the fifth note then you`ll hear the gargles,which are quite cool sometimes.

If you are a Juno user then you should prolly buy a few replacement chips, they are not that expensive. Common problem, easy fix, great synth.
