Absolutely not. But they should make a tune that comes from the soul and not for the ambition of staying relevant in 2011.

I love it how any criticism of this tune is met with the question "What,do you prefer him to make Ni Ten Ichi Ryu over and over again?!" My complaint about this failtune has NOTHING to do with how similar/dissimilar it is to his older work. My complaint is that it sounds like the noodling of a bored producer who wants to leverage his glory days to push half-assed work onto people who wouldn't know good music if it hit them over the head.

And Photek isn't the only one. The DNB landscape is littered with former goliaths of the genre who once made genius music and now just put out complete shit. Names like Dillinja and Goldie ring a bell? It's the classic artist brain-drain...they just run out of new ideas.

typical thing though isn't it, if he'd rocked up with 'modus operandi pt2' people would be slating his lack of vision, so he turns up with something new and it's all 'oh he's lost it now'.

like the depth in the roll, but i'm from a breaks background, so that's probably why.

yeah but modus operandi was about 14 years ago now, 10 years ago he made Solaris, dunno if youve listened to it much but its mostly house/downbeat music and this would fit right in there I recon.

Have you people been keeping up? Did you guys not hear Form And Function Vol2? To my ears thats a return to proper music for Photek, Im really feeling it. Hes back on that stripped down, slightly old school electronic vibe. Most of Modus doesnt have the crazy drum patterns he used in his 94/95 jungle, its mostly 2 step rollers, Photeks the king of minimalism, I wouldnt expect anything different from him when hes on form. Not diggin that avalanche track music though.

Skullbussa, fair play thats your take on it. but I dont think this is Photek noodling, I think this is probably the most soul hes put into his work since Solaris, I dont think its got anything to do with staying relevant in 2011, F&F2 was a souless work of someone trying to be relevant. He digs his deep, minimal, housey music, hypnotic loops, thats what he does best. You dont like it, fair enough, but I think its a mistake to presume Photeks only putting his soul into music when hes making jungle.

i think he becames an old man. in all times there was a drive in his music. solaris age too. F&F2 - is a compilation of some tracks prodused after 2000 and nothing else. this tune on youtube haven't any drive too. just crappy house beats and nothing special. avalanche is more interesting, but not enough too... not enough for me and him.

this sounds well produced and layered but as a piece of music it's insanely lazy. The drum patterns/rolling atmospherics in verse are incredibly typical as are the soaring chords in chorus and the overall stucture.

some nice moments but then nice isn't a word that should be used to describe music from a producer who is capable of so much more in terms of impact.

It's rolling groove is cool, very agreeable track , sounds deliberate though like veering into poppy.

I agree that the chords that come in are very similar to the crystal castles track.
