Phase block - ni massive
I'm new into music production and picked up massive a week ago.
Reading the manual for now, to get a good basis of the vst.
The thing I don't understand is: the phases of the oscillators, what does this mean exactly?
If i would understand what the 'phases of the oscillators' are i know i'd understand the whole phase block under the osc tab.
I know it's a beginners questions and since my english isn't that good i'd ask it here for better explination than the manual.
thanks in advance anyway!
peace

Phase is where a waveform starts and ends. If we're talking about a square it might look like this:
_-
if you adjust the phase of the waveform then it would look like this
-_
If you played the two examples together they would cancel each other out and you would hear nothing

"put down" the manual, right now.
open massive, play some notes whilst playing around with the wavetable position knob. pick a nice fun osc like scrapyard or acid.
isn't that more fun and more educational than reading the manual. go on, my son.

Kudos to him for actually wanting to know what's going on rather than...

Re: Phase block - ni massive
when massive is set on restart via gate the phase bit is really good to make variations on a bass. move one of them back and forth with multiple distorted oscs and it makes different harmonics come out
Re: Phase block - ni massive
okay so the phase modulation in massive is changing the wavetable around? if thats what it does then what does the position modulation knob do O.o
im so confused

Re: Phase block - ni massive
This also helps to avoid the constant (and sometimes odd) change in sound when detuning waves, as well. Ensures it maintains an element of consistency as it morphs. If that makes sense.thefrim wrote:when massive is set on restart via gate the phase bit is really good to make variations on a bass. move one of them back and forth with multiple distorted oscs and it makes different harmonics come out

its pretty important to learn imo, very quick and easy to understand if you google of wikipedia and itll help you to properly layer up waveformsamphibian wrote:People learn in different ways.Recessive Trait wrote:"put down" the manual, right now.
