RAM *is* important but the OP has a much better CPU than me and I'm also running vista 64bit so there shouldn't be a massive difference in performance. Also in my personal experience cracks often make things run a lot slower. No doubt because of the extra nonsense they are getting on with that you don't know about.

I'm running windows 7 on an hp and it runs crystal usually. Occassionally it will have short spikes towards the very end when I start dropping things like harmonic exciters and stereoimagers on almost all of the tracks, you know the final parts. Whenever this happens the best bet is freeze a track, wait 2 minutes and then get going. if your comp doesn't have the processing power look at the vst's you're using, if you're constructing all synths with massive it bogs down your comp a lot more than say operator.

There can be loads of spyware in cracked software. Not condoning it, but if you do choose to torrent illegally, do scan your files regularly.abZ wrote:What extra nonsense?
If you are clean, close all the unecessary processes in your windows task manager, and that should help free up some space.
Oh, and just cause your current pc isn't fast enough doesn't mean you need to get a Mac, you can ALWAYS get a MUCH better PC for the same amount of money as a Mac, FACT.
Just goto somewhere like Lenovo or Scan.co.uk if you need to upgrade, they do proper hardcore laptops. Better still get a desktop that you only produce music on, thats the way forward.

Yeah just make sure the PC you get is compatible with OSX and you will be fineEDN wrote:There can be loads of spyware in cracked software. Not condoning it, but if you do choose to torrent illegally, do scan your files regularly.abZ wrote:What extra nonsense?

If you know what you are doing cracks are perfectly safe. I know that goes against the agenda here but lying to people is pretty weak. Give them a REAL reason to purchase software instead.

I'm running Ableton on XP. I think I win an internet. (or something.)

Also cracks *are* buggy. Don't ask me how or why cos I don't know but in my experience a crack will perform real shit compared to the real thing and ultimately you have no idea what that installers been programmed to do other than install a cracked version of whatever software all the teenies are using these days.
Re: Anyone running Ableton on PC laptop without lag/sound pr
Yeah fair, but there are loads of hackintosh guides out there and you can buy the same parts that you would get in a Mac for much less and just assemble it yourself.abZ wrote:Yeah just make sure the PC you get is compatible with OSX and you will be fine![]()
Yeah exactly, if you scan your downloads you will be fine (I like playing videogames I can't afford), however woe betide anyone who uses utorrent without a virus checker.abZ wrote:If you know what you are doing cracks are perfectly safe. Aaaanyway this has got completely off topic.
If there is now way of getting rid of your problems try formatting your hard drive and re-installing windows. That always makes everything feel shiny (especially if you had a load of bullshit proprietary laptop stuff loaded on there when you bought it.)

Re: Anyone running Ableton on PC laptop without lag/sound pr
hi,
am starting to get a little anxious hearing all these stories with ableton 8 and laptops. have yet to try it out on my laptop (hp envy 17 1050ea, i7 chip 4gb ram, windows 7 64 bit)
anyway my plan was to use the laptop with an akai apc 40 and a focusrite saffire 6 for dj ing, will this laptop be able to handle this? or should i just plan on getting my desktop portable which has an amd dual 4200, 2gb ram and an m audio delta 1010lt with it, running xp sp3. i can't say though, that i've ever noticed any problems with the desktop.
all the best, mark

Re: Anyone running Ableton on PC laptop without lag/sound pr
curious, OP, have you ever tried running it with a dedicated external soundcard? it may take a lot of load off the cpu.
If my calculations are correct, when this baby hits 88 miles per hour, you're going to see some serious shit.

Re: Anyone running Ableton on PC laptop without lag/sound pr
Set ableton live to a higher priority, and run it in compatibility mode on Vista. Vista is an absolute POS, but doing these two things will make ableton live run a LOT smoother. Also - follow some tips/tutorials on speeding up Vista, specifically articles removing all the bullshit that Vista loads. You won't believe how much of a performance increase you'll get out of that fail operating system. PS - not hating on windows, just Vista. It's the 2009 edition of ME *epic sigh*

Re: Anyone running Ableton on PC laptop without lag/sound pr
i got 2ghz of ram and 5 gbs of memory on windows 7 64. i usesd to have problems with cpu but i learned how to freeze tracks. if u have a main synth or bassline that you know you arent going to change for a while right click the track and click freeze. This frees up alot of cpu

Re: Anyone running Ableton on PC laptop without lag/sound pr
its your soundcard dude, invest in a good audio interface and you'll see a huuuge difference. you'll be taking a huge load off your cpu by having one. especially since you have a single core. any onboard audio sucks most of the time anyway.
Re: Anyone running Ableton on PC laptop without lag/sound pr
i would bounce all ur synths/vsti's down to audio. Then you can upload them as wave file. that is what i do to save cpu usage.
