This is the best example of the kind of drum sound i'd like to create, the specific part of the beat is between about 30-55 seconds in. Phaeleh seems to
have this kind of drum production on a lot of his tracks, I just want to know how to create such a "small" (for want of a better word) sounding groove. Do you think it's more to do with the sample, or the producing? I thought of maybe putting compressors on the drums and turning the threshold right down, but don't know if that's what's being done here?

Re: Phaeleh drums
Yeah, really feeling Phaeleh's percussion, such a delicate sound. Really interested to know how he achieves it, I'm no expert but I would imagine very clever use of EQ and filtering, plus just a good choice of sample to begin with, but his drums do have a beautiful groove to them as well.
Re: Phaeleh drums
Choosing good samples is a place to start. The ADSR envelope may have been manipulated, but it also sounds like the individual hits may have had their tails cut down significantly, so instead of naturally fading away they almost 'pop' out of existence.
The hats are particularly clicky as well; you could try taking a normal hat sample and shortening the length by half to get that clicking sound.

yeh i think its to do with shortening a lot of samples so theres a lot of space in the beat, whcih helps get that shuffle and possibly envoloping of the samples with a slight attack to get that fade in pop out kinda feel. Phaeleh nails drums every tiem. I think its also simply to do with how every elemtn of the tune is working with the durms
