unwanted "clicking noise"

Post by luvs2booge » Sun Jan 23, 2011 4:20 am

Hello dubstepforum! I am new to producing dubstep and D&B and I noticed after making a song during playback there is a very annoying "click" on every note

is there a technical name for this and how do i prevent it? It is still barely audible at low volumes so im guessing it doesnt have to do with the track being to loud... I hear it through my comp. speakers and through my headphones.

I usually produce hip hop beats and have never encountered this before.

Sorry if this is a newb question or if it is already answered please link me to the thread!

you sure the metronome isn't on? not to sound condescending but the way you describe it sounds like you might have overlooked that...

also, make sure your DAW isn't using more of your cpu's battery power than it can handle:

good luck man.

Apply clip envelopes to your clips so that the start and end are silent.
This applies to Cubase ableton and I think you can use them in logic as well but it's been a while.

Ableton: http://www.soundonsound.com/sos/oct08/a ... e_1008.htm
Cubase it's easy - you just drag the envelopes on the clips.

Put small fades on your clips on the start and end:

If u solo each track you will find out where the clicks are coming from.

IF you're using the clip bit and not blocks...

click the little thing on the top left corner and click automation > Volume for audio clips..

For midi notes, use the ADSR on your synth.

First, solo each track so you found out which sound is causing it (as others have said).

1. If it's a synth, check your envelopes - give it a slight attack/release if this is the problem
2. Check any sort of side-chaining compression. If there is, check to ensure the attack is around 10ms or so to remove the click
3. If it's a sample or file, either fade it in as others have said, or if its loaded in a sampler, give it a slight attack
