But WHY tho

Imagine if we tried remaking The Wire or The Sopranos or something, with horrible cultural substitutes i.e. The Sopranos became Cockneys so the audience can relate more.

Why do US networks have to redo the whole series instead of just broadcast the British version? Are American audiences that offened by our accents that they cannot relate to story arcs set outside their boarders?

for starters we have higher production values over here which is generally immediately noticeable
it's why so many us shows are imported to other countries programming and not the other way around

yea but even our trash tv has higher production value to it, where as even some of the shows i love say on the bbc look like they were shot on a shoestring budget

I'm not going to debate the merits of pap tv. My "shoesting tv" has some substance rather than the vulgar commercial advert ridden drivel that gets ported internationally from the us.

Why do shows like The Office, filmed as a mockumentary, need high production techniques? A well written TV series is a well written TV series, trying to recreate the entire thing for the sake of higher resolution cameras or prettier actors is ridiculous.

American tv needs big budgets and high production value because most of their writing is shit.

You may have a massive budget but it doesn't mean you can make a good series. American TV has loads of good shows and so on but there's far more shit than quality.

I'll quite happily pay my TV licence fee for BBC documentaries alone :)

-w- have you watched through the us office since there are a lot more episodes and completely different stories (ffs gervais is going to be doing a guest on it soon)
people seem to get so butt hurt over shit like this

the only say sci fi shows i can think of that has made it over here with good writing and production value is dr who and merlin
most of the us remakes of sitcoms or drama have been complete shit though (coupling, skins)

i was just saying why most shows tend to get remade in the us and it's because of production value, not the writing, the writing is why they get picked for the most part

I think the American audiences are a lot more sensitive to dark, callous british humour. Frankie Boyle wouldn't last two minutes on ABC :)
