Tools and effects your daw provides question

I use ableton at the moment, i dont really use many plugins eccept for synths. i was wondering if the effects and tools that ableton provides compares to plugins in the way of quality. should i buy a hole load of plugins or will i get away whith what ableton provides? keeping in mind that i dont have endless amounts of cash to spare.

Other people might step in here and try to disagree but I'm gonna overule them in advance because it's rubbish. The ableton plugins are awesome, especially if your using ableton 8 suite. There's really no need whatsoever to buy any third party plugs. There are a few things ableton doesn't cater for but those luckily have amazing freeware versions available.

Check out 'dblue glitch', 'atlantis filter', 'Roger Nichols Inspector' and the free camel audio distortion unit I can't remember the name of and your set.

The only thing you might want to pay for down the line is a third party synth. But really a synth is all you need to buy. The ableton ones are *good*, don't get me wrong. Just personally I felt a shiny new third party synth would complete my setup (I use ableton myself, with the free plugins I suggested plus alchemy which is around 180 quid)

EDIT: It's really not a matter of 'getting away with' Abletons stock plugins. They are actually damn good.

I love Abletons plugs. Unless you need something very specific, imo ableton packs PLENTY of punch
