the selection in funky monkeys got allot better recently, and i do pop in and buy the odd vinyl. the thing is i tend to buy vinyl in bulk to save on postage and the record shops in nottingham just carnt compete with the internet shops, both in the amount of tunes that they have in stock and because it takes them a little while to get fresh tunes in.djstandfast

Best off buying records off the net these days, especially chem records, funky monkey didnt have a great selection of dubstep when i went in the other week.
Its a vicious circle - people stop going to the shops, the shops then have less stock, internet shops then seem to have more choice, people start complaining about how crap the shops are.....later....no record shops left ! Just like how it seems to be in towns in America.
Support your shops folks !
i agree, i do buy alot off the internet ...but i go to shops on regular, in notts and some in birmingham aswell, i enjoy it more, going to the shops and listening to bare vinyls all day
but yeh there was groove city / rep uk but like geiom said...they closed down and gone onto the net, there was also mushi mushi records, but that has gone...all thats left really is selectadisc, oh my gosh and funky monkey

prices are extortionate imo, £8.99 plus £4 postage for horrid henry for example.
saying that though, they got a good selection of records!! its just the prices that put me off

Re: Record shops in Nottingham
i see them selling alot of the records on my want list at ridiculous prices...same as some brere on discogs called dubvendor or something...pisses me off because then everyoneelse that looks to sell the record after they've put their price up thinks they can put a similar price...and then you end up with a record selling at £50 that 2 weeks ago was selling at £20mattboyslim wrote:I was googling and discovered this thread.
