turn it upside down to drain, shake it gently and leave it open, preferably near something warm (not hot!)

might be ok if you're lucky

I did it a while ago.

had to leave it about two days before it would turn on again.

Let it dry out, pretty much all you can do. Do you have much sugar in your tea?

Sounds like it cut short, if it did you're probably screwed. Definitely leave it to dry, still a good chance it'll just start up.

Remove the battery, AC adapter and HDD if possible.
Then place the laptop in the airing cupboard upside down in an A shape for a couple of days.
Hope and pray, lol!

if it's mainly water you should be ok as long as you shut it off/disconnected before any smoke or burning smells appeared, if there was even a tiny bit of sugar in your delicious tea then you are probably fucked as this will corrode the circuitry pretty brutally.
If you can be bothered, it might be worthwhile taking the case off and trying to get to the bits affected to clean off what you can, the heat of an operating computer can burn shit thats dried and this will cause more probs down the line.
