Taking breaks is essential.
Try not to keep turning the volume up either.
Ear plugs for clubs..once you get over the fact it isnt the coolest thing, it will be worth it. If anyone takes the piss, tell them your a music producer (dont have to them how good you actually are!)
Ive also found that decent cans helps as well. Treated myself to the Sennheiser 650's and are far less straining on the ears!

Re: Ear fatigue
smoking causes tinnitus. im not so sure it degrades your hearing as much as 90dbs to your dome for 3 hours but yea

i did this (up until i lost my ER20s) and had few girls ask me why i wore them and usually replied 'cause i dont want to go deaf', to which they replied 'what?' about 5 times before finally hearing/giving up. looking back, i wish i just said i make music/was rusko or some other wank producer to try get in their knickerspanleft wrote:Ear plugs for clubs..once you get over the fact it isnt the coolest thing, it will be worth it. When I had my plugs I just used to say to people that it made music sound better and they don't know what they're missing! haahaha

The antidote to ear fatigue:
Nature. Specifically quiet places like babbling brooks, meadows with birds singing, stuff like that. 2 or 3 hours of passive listening to that and I'm usually good to go.

Re: Ear fatigue
I have severe tinnitus...
there's only two things that make it bearable... snowshoeing... and the scent of my woman... no joke...
i guess hearing is a sense and u need to fulfill another sense to help it recover... might sound esoteric ... but its always served me well.
a lot of us are so sound focused.. and im always amazed at how most of beatmakers are always thinking with their ears.. always talking about sound.. u may not notice it but if u have a natural talent with sounds its because uve played with them in ur mind forever... (which itself may come from a natural predisposition but we won't play chick and egg here, (btw chick came first))...
but think about it... forget about ur ears, and fulfill your other senses... u might get really inspired.
practically speaking... it would mean something like... look at paintings for half an hour and then get back to work..
