Old grime snare?

Post by Eko » Mon Jan 31, 2011 1:44 pm

Anyone know where abouts you can get or buy that classic sounding grime snare from all the old school Wiley instrumentals? I've made one almost identical but would love the original sample! Cheers

Not sure if it works the same way with Wiley's stuff/grime, but one time I took a WAV of Mushroomhead's Solitare/Unravelling and opened it in Audacity. Then I found a place where he was doing a fill with no other sounds going on. I zoomed in, cropped, cut and pasted the waveform into another new Audacity project. I then exported that and BOOMSHANKA! I had a Mushroomhead sounding snare!

I'm assuming you could probably do the same with what you're going for!

I love the snare in that tune.

But yeah, find a CD with wiley's track on it and try and rip it... Get a tunnel vision or something.

Roland 606 snares are popular in grime and uk hip hop.
Don’t worry about people stealing an idea. If it’s original, you will have to ram it down their throats.

Figured I'd tack this similar question on here...

What's that clap that all the grime tracks use? I've heard it in Dizzee and Wiley stuff, as well as elsewhere. Maybe this is commonly known or something but I am ignorant.

Thanks

They use a 909 clap and also standard claps in FL. U want something with little processing and loads of snap!

Well I had a look, sadly nothing but if I stumble across some more I'll let you know.

Also, has anyone heard of Plugsounds? Apparently Wiley rinsed that but I'm not sure because that might only be for his synths anyway.

Also, just read my previous scentence which did not make any sense! Haha.

plugsounds is an old rompla - pretty sick, sampletank is probably better these days as its not out dated

You sure? The raw unedited one doesn't have the same cupped-hand, weird sound. Maybe they just pitch it but and shorten the decay a lot? I'll try that out.
