Thanks a lot for the feedback man. Dope track you posted, especially lovin that bass, and good work on those vocals as well.

I think I HP the kick at around 80hz or so, I'll try lowering that, along with the bass, down to maybe 60 and see how it sounds. I've got a few 808 samples I found online, but maybe I'll use the exs24 to make my own sine bass.

I agree on it sounding really flat. Do you have any suggestions for making sound a little more lively? Maybe adding an amp or something? or a little distortion. Anyways thanks for the feedback, I was hoping I'd be able to get some good advice out of this thread.

edit: btw I havn't been able to purchase monitors yet, and probably wont be able to for another 2 or 3 months. So for now all do is go back and forth from my Ipod headphones to my surround sound system in my bedroom. I know its not the best way, but for now its all I have to work with.

dont hipass ur kicks lol, just sidechain them to the sub duuurr

i low cut my kicks at 40hz usually, dubstep aint dnb lol dnb has less space for big kicks cos its so fast so they cut them at like 70-80

but u really dont need to with dubstep

sorry mate - but don't make it as an 'obvious' fact...
you can for sure highpass your kick if you have an ongoing bassline or an underlayed 808. if they clash it needs highpassing.

sidechaining is imho something different, for me it counts more as an effect - it changes teh whole sound and gives it a different feel.

Its all good man. Learning more and more as I go along. Hell, the first few attempts I made at songs I put my snares, kicks, his, and other percussion all on the same track lol, so I'm sure theres still a few things I'm not doing right, but hey, thats why I'm posting on here :corndance:

btw I just learned about the whole sidechaining thing as I was working on this track, so before I knew anything about that, the HP made it sound a lot less muddy, and like I said, I'm just experimenting trying to make it sound as good as I can with the current knowledge I have. I'm hoping that each song I do I can make a little more technical, until I have a good understanding of it all, instead of trying to jump right into everything.

This tune is sick mate. I pretty much always high pass my kicks too but around 50-60hz otherwise i feel like it cuts into the sub and makes the bass sound kinda muddy.

Shortened my previous song so that there isn't as bigger gap between each element coming in:

Dropped it last night at sheep. Sounded decent mate. Had to pump the EQs a little more than some tracks but still sounded good.
