i think Nolans ability to twist a plot, write an incredible script and create some pretty visually and intellectually stimulating films is what makes him such a great film maker in my books. I do agree that past memento he hasn't done anything particularly original but atleast he's tried out some different genres and isn't just a one trick pony like James Cameron for example.

Great movie. The ending was a bit ridiculous but I enjoyed it. Beautifully shot film. The setting was a major highlight. The hallucinogen based riutals were handled pretty well too.

The eco message was a bit heavy-handed but it's an important message, imo.

I caught maybe the last 20 minutes or so without knowing what it was, would quite like to see the whole thing to be honest.

Enter the Void.

Not impressed, felt like i was watching a farce of a semi-psychedelic soap opera with a ton of after-effects. Most scenes seemed drawn out, and the main character was a very poor actor, a better casting job would have sealed the deal. the psychedelic scenes were far less chaotic than real experience. Really surprised everyone was hyping this so much. i'd give it a 6/10

the opening credits are epic, however... and some of the cinematics were breath-taking. although none of them were the scenes that i'd actually want to take my breath away.

If Inception is what passes as 'intellectually stimulating' then no wonder we're living in a word where a Degree in Madonna is actually considered an academic success.

are you trying to say that inception did not make you think? i can guarantee half the great british public saw it, thought as hard as they could and still couldnt work out what the fuck is going on.

Nope. It flatters to deceive. It is merely a facade, like the rest of his films. Interesting ideas, but nothing new. He plays with structure in a nice way in Memento, but really he just played a film in reverse. Is that so controversial and mind blowing? Inception was quite cluttered and clumsy in comparison.

Anyway, I enjoy his films as entertainment, but really they are not the powerful Kantian works of Philosophy that some would like to claim.

It's not a bad film as far as 80s jungle flicks go, my favourite though is probably the Mosquito Coast. As always it's not as good as the book but it's still very good, even if it only gets an average review on IMDB :)

River Phoenix, *sniff* could have been an awesome actor. :(
