To the folks who have had tunes mastered...
Basically I'd like to know if you found the process took your productions to a whole new level.
I just recently had a cd (for my band, not electronic) mastered and I could not believe how much more full and powerful it sounded. I already want to start getting my productions mastered.
The reason I'm mentioning it is that I think it seems to be very overlooked by 'amateur' producers (myself included), I mean why even put a tune on soundcloud for the public to hear when mastering could do so much more for the sound of the track...

I offer a reasonably priced service, and have an excellent response by the artists and labels wanting a mastering service.
This ranges from A few larger labels who I have been working with (Z-Audio, Paradise Lost, Tsunami audio, SQNC and Prime audio to name a few) and to individuals on here and over on social networking sites.
Now, im not here to sell myself, just that your thread caught my eye and yes, I believe mastering can and probably will make you stand out from the 'usual crowd' of semi-amateurs (im not assuming anyone is or not amateurs here, im just saying it to make a point)... Buuut, you have to weigh up the odds in waiting until you are confident in your own mix-downs to pay for mastering to get the most out of the service... As the saying goes, you cant polish a turd. So mastering is by no means a fix to end all, but to enhance what is already there, and address technical issues in how a track will perform on a range of mediums. does that make sense?!

Also when I buy music, I check to see who did the mastering, so I can keep a tally.

Re: To the folks who have had tunes mastered...
Hi Depone, this looks like a pretty good servicing. I can't comment critically as not in the studio, so not even going to try and judge a master coming out of my macbook's speakers lol. One thing that I did notice that I think you should change is the A/B examples on soundcloud, you should have the mastered parts seperate so they are the same level, or just automate them to make them the same volume as the unmastered parts - obviously with a gap so they can be differed between. The reason I say that is because its hard to comparatively judge which of the 2 is better if one is a lot louder than the other. In fact that's one proven psycho acoustic effect that 'louder' can come across as sounding 'better'. Obviously some would take this into account, just there's lots of others who wouldn't think of this. Other than that it looks really good, its a very good 15 pound per track aswell as the discount! You may be interested in my service - http://www.depone.co.uk/mastering.html

Re: To the folks who have had tunes mastered...
mastering can do wonders, but honestly some people just throw on a preset or something and not even bother listening to how it sounds?? ive received "mastered" versions of my track where literally the volume Completely shifts throughout the whole song like my speakers are going mad

Re: To the folks who have had tunes mastered...
no. ideally mastering makes your production sound as best it can but it doesnt make your production better. increasing your sequencing and mixdown skills will take your production to new levels.jyro wrote:Basically I'd like to know if you found the process took your productions to a whole new level.
mastering is the gloss coat on your candy paint. ya dig?
