i wont give details but it is within a script found within a particular div. the ONLY thing you can download is the transcoded 128. people shouldn't worry too much IMHO. but it is annoying, and soundcloud should look at fixing it.

Yeah it's easy to nab files from most shares.
You can only nab the 128 and you don't need source code knowledge - there are apps that find it for you and download it with easy.
I'm going to start posting only clips.

i find this quite interesting in a timely way, as i logged in to soundcloud yesterday to find that someone had posted a mix entirely of my music. initially he said it was "for my ears only" but now he's sharing it. honestly, i think it's pretty cool, and i even sent him the 320s after i saw it, but at the same time, it's like, dude, you ripped from my soundcloud...

One of the firefox apps you can use to download audio from video does this, but thankfully only saves in .mpeg so the quality is pretty poor. People are always going to be able to get hold of your music, that's just life I think...

I cant imagine anyone would want to steal my music anyway. I dont sell my tunes so Im not losing anything if they did, Id be more flattered than anything that they have gone to the effort. However I can understand why some of the more successful of us would be annoyed by this. No way to stop it really though, people could just record their soundcard output into audacity or something if the various easier ways of DL tunes was stopped.

If it's just 128k I don't care. I am not paranoid. People are going to have access to the high quality stuff as soon as everything is released. I like to put up full songs on soundcloud from the label. I don't care. I don't do this for the people that would play 128k out live. I do it for the people that care and support. Not condoning piracy but the whole idea is to get the music and the artists names out there. Not a lot of money in selling mP3s these days but money can come as a result of the exposure. Gigs and doing music for commercial purposes could get you somewhere my 2 cents. The whole protecting the music like a fragile egg ain't it for me tbh.

No, I agree. I just thought people should know.

I wasnt really commenting on anything or anyone in particular just making a statement. Personally I kinda assume anything that can be heard can be downloaded. My statement is in regards to the lock it down crew. It's kind of annoying to me. You have the right to lock it down but what purpose does that serve? I am not trying to make a living out of music. I just want people to listen to it and enjoy it. Keeping it to yourself defeats that purpose. Rant over lol.

All this privacy and paranoia is a bit ridiculous imo.
I mean it's all good to be confident about your music and I can understand that it would be a disappointement to miss a release because a tune was shared for free but at the same time if your music is that good it'll get released anyway.
You're not going to miss a once in a life-deal for sharing your music. Quite the contrary, it's more likely you'd get more exposure.
And wtf, we're making music/art, not running a business (not talking about label owners btw).

Like I said, I just thought people should know.

Personally, piracy isn't an issue. It's good for people to be able to get your music or anyone's for that matter for free.

If someone doesn't have the money to listen to a tune but wants to then they can have it.

This is gonna have a reverse psychology effect, rather than warning peeps, it'll make pirates more alert for the next snatch...
Do you say zerbaman? Or do you say zebraman?

erm, you dont even need any knowledge of coding etc to get hold of the 128k, it will be cached on your computer in your browsers cache which is pretty simple to access (unless they have changed the way it works since i last looked into it). you can do this with any site that 'streams' music or videos by caching the file on your hard drive, just have to find the file. is this the method everyone is referring to cause i have known about this probably for about 2 or more years. or am i just behind the times?

THIS!

or they could record it on audiotape or md or...

i think the best way to handle it is to upload versions with tracks on lower levels or upload versions with annoying samples of scratching over a blackboard.
i don't care if anyone would download my tunes (my sound is shit, anyways) without permission, but i think it's a big problem for the people who pay for SC. if i would reach a state of professionality to be able to pay for a soundcloud accound i would start complaining, even if its just 128s they can grab.

They can also get them 320kpbs quality... my soundcard has a selection for recording called "What I hear" and i can proper rip off anything from anywhere... (not implying i do it) but yeah. nothings safe really.. except throwing clips out there with sirens etc.

Yeah but it's still 128k quality minus one generation. You can record it in 32 bit if you want but it's not going to make it sounds better than it is.

Just do like I do and make all your tunes sound like utter shite and no one will take it -r-

Soundcloud should have a 'watermark' tick box when uploading that would put a robotic voice saying 'soundcloud' over your track every minute or so. Would save the artist the hassle.
