Well as for being a retard, guess I won't bother visiting this forum then aight?
Does me saying forums above a certain size become retard magnets mean I think everyone on here is a retard then? Pretty sure I seen some of the mods saying the same thing, you have seen the thread retard magnet right? Forums get so many members then you have too many different conflicting views floating about ppl taking offense at anything it all gets pretty retarded - that said however DSF has a way to go b4 that shit gets as bad as DNB Arena Dogs on acid etc
Its time consuming dealing with the fallout from actually expressing an opinion on here which is why many producers don't anymore they just advertise their latest release or mix etc which is pretty sensible tbh. This place has its moments and its an essential resource for anyone producing or djing but there are so many ppl fishing trying to wind up producers + the same old arguments going over and over again it get tedious
without a question, the biggest issue with site's like this one is that by virtue of scenes developing at the pace they have, the intimacy does change. so sharing an opinion with 200 people you know well, turns into sharing an opinion with thousands of people you don't. you could argue either side of that in terms of which is better or worse for a musician. support and camaraderie or exposure? everyone has to answer that themselves.

ultimately, music forums will never make everyone happy. its impossible. never forget though, that sites like these nurture influences and the next thing, and the next thing. so for example, there's someone that heard tea leaf dancers, and was inspired by it to write their own track. someone that bought Contact, Love, Want Have.. is now influenced by that album, and probably here posting their tunes. someone that has been waiting for maybe years in a corner of this planet to hear flying lotus or ikonika, probably heard about them on a site like this one first, and will show up to the tourstop. for 5 years this site has made sure that the events sections were a top priority, because we all knew that this thing would grow organically, just as it has.
how many thousands of tunes inspired by burial have you heard on this site. literally hundreds in the dubs forum after untrue came out. is that a bad thing? is it ok to be influenced by burial?
is having a thread on this forum that tells you in detail, how to create sine waved sub bass a bad thing? only to those that are insecure about their creativity.
its not the tools that make the artist. its his/her creative statement that makes the artist.
