@jakedubber - You are the man! I just listened to "Way of The Samurai" and must say, it's freaking awesome, bro. May I ask how long you've been producing?

Thanks man
Glad you liked it. I've been producing for about six months, you?

You got skills, bro!jakedubber wrote:Thanks manGlad you liked it. I've been producing for about six months, you?

I've been producing dubstep/music in general for 2 - 3 weeks now, so I'm all new to this stuff. :p

@DubMikey - Cool man. Good to have someone new on the scene
What DAW do you use?

Re: WORKS-IN-PROGRESS for February, 2011
@jakedubber - I am using FL Studio 9. How about you?

Re: WORKS-IN-PROGRESS for February, 2011
@DubMikey - Ableton Live - I'm on a mac. I have FL Studio 9 installed via CrossOver, but I find it so counter-intuitive. Ableton just seems to work the same way my brain does

Re: WORKS-IN-PROGRESS for February, 2011
@jakedubber - Haha, it's all good! Why I use FL Studio, I don't really know. It's the only "real music producing" software I've tried, and now I'm getting pretty used to it, so no need to switch by now! :p

Re: WORKS-IN-PROGRESS for February, 2011
@DubMikey - That makes sense. I started on Reason, but quickly moved to Ableton because the UI was really detailed. All the buttons were WAY too small. I can't imagine changing now, it'd feel like cheating on someone haha
Going to bed now man, I'm ready to sleep at my desk. Looking forward to hearing an update on your track.

Mister: I'S RAINING SIDEWAYS! Haha, funny track. Pretty chill beat, too. The part at 1:12 would sound better if you didn't loop the same short chord progression a 4 times and instead used that loop once, then progressed the chord changes even more (using them harmonic minor sounding chords). I like what I hear, tho
Spencer: I don't like the note progression with the lead synth in the intro. Sounds too dissonant, but if you change around some of the notes it could sound pretty sweet. And the whole song gets kind of repetitive. If you're gunna keep the dissonant part, I'd say add another more melodic part to balance it out. Not bad, though, just needs work.
Kika: I like the way you rearranged everything, but it sounds too much like the original. Add more of your own sounds.
mattdesl: Really nice framework for a potentially massive song. Make the kick punch a little harder, is all I can think to say. I love the synth part at 1:30
Keep filling it out man!
Now for my track.. Probably the most original beat I've made so far and I'm really proud of the drums I got on this track.. Still lots of work to do, tho (its pretty bare up until halfway)

@Jake Dubber - “Way of the samurai” – I know it’s not your latest WIP, but it’s the first time I’ve heard it. Nasty bass man! Especially after only 6 months of work. You will do well my friend. I’m not sure if I like the heavy panning on the snare…some of the sounds seem too far away, maybe a bit too much reverb. Overall great work man. Like that heavy ride near the end.
@Fluid moshun – “Robot Skank” – Awesome intro. Really digging the jazzy ride, but I don’t like it panned hard right. It might sound better a little closer to center. Snare sounds good, but the kick is non-existent. I feel like a real (as in, not 808) kick sample would fit really well here. All in all, cool track man! Very original.
@Mister Jangles – “Ollie Williams” – Blackie weather report. Hilarious. But, the track is rather thin. Sounds are cool. It’s just needs some beef, ya know? Maybe compress the track and put a little distortion on it. Nice work man.
And here’s a preview of my newest WIP, “It’ll Do”:

I am at work, thus on some crappy pc speakers, but I'll try to give some feedback nonetheless.
Will give better feedback on your soundclouds when I get home from work
Bass Sedation:
The lead melody and synth sounds really good and original. And the spaced out flute sounds fits the rest nicely. I'm not that into DnB but I liked it. Chill stuff
Fluidmoshun:
Now here is a case of, I am guessing, this soundsystem not doing justice to your tune. The groovy bassline in the intro sounds awesome from what I can gather. And the drum pattern sounds really unique and interesting. Looking forward to listen to this when I get home and on my monitors.
Mister Jangles:
Sounds like you have some interesting sounds going there. Really liked the wobble and the overall groove in the 2nd drop. Looking forward to listen to this one at home as well.
Tried mixing the previous tune I posted better and boost the overall volume a bit, as well as some minor nitpicking.
Would love to get some pointers/tips/advice/whatnot on how to further enhance the tune.

@kikaruu : thanks, for the snare i did the ol take of snap and slide the start point abit offtime,,hmm could do with some changes i agree, just needed someone else to point out what i was hearing cheers:
listend on :headphones taken: co-codinal ear status: Fresh
Frasch: the vocals put me off in the intro (was like agh gangstas wanna tell me bout there blingin bitcgs!!!)but the dropped pulledd me back in. Well made, thought it was abit cliche with that massive bass sound but its so well used i dont mind it. Curious to know what your sub is like, (on headphones) ..."she like a crack addict ...grab my keys, hoe i got to go!!!" soz got no tips sounds compently mixed on my headphones, maybe snare could be louder but ilike the procussion as is.
Basssedation: diffrent! the crazy drums kept me listening as it wasnt just a repeated brack
liking how it slows down maybe miss out a hit of percussion or two in those areas, on headphones so wonder what the bass is like, really like that bass synth on my headphones like an anolugy typesound.
The 320 is a lie!
let me kno if u finishs up beast and it gets a free download, still likin the groove on that one.
@fluidmotion:yea nice drums got a good live jazzlike quality, wasnt keen on some of the synth tones (when it sounded like a guitar , my op) drums are diffrent snare isnt so punchy but that seems intentional,, really like those vinyl type cackling bit in there.
@kikaruu: SWAGGGER!!!! nicely mental wanna get this on the speakers!! liking the 2:10 switch up! cool stuff
mine again as it was looked over. got this far then didnt know where to go with it? at the mo its just 2 large sections (and that intro first bar is just there to trigger the mouthcorrectly upon loading lazy i know)

FBAC:
Thanks for the feedback mate. Good to hear that the mix sounds allright. "Was like agh gangstas wanna tell me bout there blingin bitches" made me laugh
I started music production with making hiphop beats, and your sentiment right there is more or less why I quit making hiphop beats and started widening my horizons. The whole "keep it real" bullshit kinda fails when the genre in itself is build on faking your gangster persona
But yeah, thanks for the feedback at least, I'll hit you up on soundcloud when I get home from work, trying to give feedback with these speakers as reference is a waste of time.

@ fbac, second drop is crazy cool man!
@ FRasch, crazy drop man, like the work on those voice samples too!
@ basssedation, sort your frequencie levels with the sub man, way over powering. not really my style of music but sounding cool!
@ FluidMoShun, jazzy beat man
nice!
@ jakedubber, way of the samurai is sick man :}
hey guys, update on my tune! feedback welcome! and for some reason when the mid range bass kicks in at like 1:17 there's a kinda fuzzy/bubbly fuzz. i don't know why it happens in soundcloud. but in Reason DAW it's fine and on my ipod it's fine! weird. anyway here it is!

Re: WORKS-IN-PROGRESS for February, 2011
@FRasch: Liking the track, I think the drop could be made a lot more powerful though, maybe strip away a few of the elements in the intro as it gets closer to the drop. The bass is quite generic I think but it works well for the track. Would like to hear a couple more of the vocals pitched down at strategic points in the track, I hear it in there somewhere but I personally love doing that and I reckon you could make use of it more in the track. Solid track man, nice one
@Fbac: Now I'm not usually a fan of the more 'glitchy' sounding tracks so won't be biased here. Listening to your track though there were several things that sprung out at me, theres a beautiful synth sound you use at about 40 seconds in, actually thought it was a processed vocal the first time I heard it sounds great
then when the bass drops after that, creates a really nice mood in the track. I think the best thing about the track is your attention to detail throughout, loads of new elements make their way in and out of the mix, however I think your percussion could be better and slightly more varied - maybe something you overlooked.
@nibzdub could be because of the SC compression...
Nice track though! I like the sub, sounding real nice and when you drop in the reversed drums! nice touch
Not sure about the snare, think it could benefit with a dash of reverb
I'm currently working on a 30 track 2011 promo mix.. Haven't put any tracks public for quite a while, so to hype everyone for the mix, here is a new one from myself
Entitled The Frogmen its soundin pretty swampy!

Re: WORKS-IN-PROGRESS for February, 2011
@ bledbox, thanks for the advice, i'm uploading a version now with more reverb on the snare so you can hear and see what it's like. btw followed you on sc and man, your tracks are shit hot!
Re: WORKS-IN-PROGRESS for February, 2011
@Blendbox - i quite like your snare and that bass makes me laugh, but in a good way haha supa catchy its one of those tracks id always throw on the cd casue it makes me smile and bodyrockkk at the same time lol - keep it up homie nice sounds and samples
@nibzdub - cool track it just sounds a little bare bones and you gota crank that sub up a bit in my opinion! maybe toss in a pad or some like white noize backround or load it with reverb fill those cracks ! otherwise nice variation and interesting sounds!
@sickozade - fuck yeh homie. bang-a-rang <3 hit it with a nice mixdown and your solid gold
@FRasch - cool tune just give it the ol mixdown and maybe load some FX on the weezy vox so it dosent sound choppy that would help pull the song together a bit in my opinion, i like that synth melody tho thats a pretty dirt riff gives it that evil vibe * keep at it cuzz
@FkuidMoShun - Lol robot skank! i loved it man, total like, lost in a dark room with a few robot jazz musicians haha i loved it
still real roguh a few things i gota change in it but heres my tune! leme know what you think!

Allrite, then I've done some SC commenting
Thanks alot for the feedback, inspiring as always. Great stuff.
Bledbox: Thanks for pointing out the first drop being less powerfull than it could be. The thing about the vocal pitching was something I was planning to do really, usually played around with that effect when producing previously but I just changed from Reason to Ableton and have no idea how to automate pitching in that DAW. If anyone knows, please shout it out. I think I need a day off from youtube-tutorial digging.
Cheers
