In the internet age it's become very generic and overused. Luckily I do very little print media, but if one of my artists turned in a piece using something like impact, helvetica, comic sans, etc I'd send it back to be redone.

would love the "overused" argument here in the land of pop songs... they'd laugh you out of the office.

also, if an artist handed me something in comic sans, i'd give them three seconds to tell me they were just kidding before i slapped them in the jaw

Yeah luckily the video game industry has a demanding and unforgiving audience and our studio spits out lazy artists. I've been here a few years and seen at least a dozen artists get fired within a week for being one trick ponies. I wouldn't hire 99% of the people toting around the graphic deisgner/media artist tag to make me a business card let alone work on a multi-million dollar project. I worked in product packaging for a bit and it about drove me insane seeing the laziness.

I just can't figure out why anyone would want to waste their time putting energy into something that's gonna be forgotten. Lot's easier ways to make a buck. Feel bad for you having to mix down unoriginal artists. Gotta get tedious.

You checked out the gaming industry at all? Lots of money in the gaming industry, lot of our audio engineers spend time at work workin on their own tunes in between projects. They all seem to enjoy it. They're off in their own little world sheltered from the bullshit.

yet its probably one of the most well known examples of 'dubstep' worldwide and most educated dubstep fans hate it.

There are likely tons of great designs using helvetica but they are likely due to great artists not the greatness of helvetica. Helvetica is popular because it was marketed properly when it was released, it was popularized in the infancy of computers like arial, futura, impact, etc. It became popular because it was there. Not because it was infinitely fantastic.

It's just too much of a go to font. It's like dropping sweetshop to get the crowd going. Or doing a red, black, and white minimal, slightly off center art piece.... or doing the black and white facial shot divided down the middle of the subjects nose.

Gap redid their logo based off the terribleness of this generations graphic designers.... they thought this was somehow a logo reconstruction

this site sums up my opinion on helvetica

sadly an ironic stab at helvetica represents what a lot of douchebags view as design

just because it's overused doesn't mean it's not a great typeface...

just because the presets in massive are overused in music doesn't mean they aren't great presets..... just means if you want to be original you're going to have to try a bit harder.

did you not notice the quotation marks and the comment afterwards? or did you stop reading ? Your reaction is proving my point anywho.

I'm not arguing whether doctor p is a dubstep artist you can take that to the general forum and waste space there.

Well why don't you come up with an actual dubstep toon that is a classic, and then compare it to helvetica?

wow dude, you really don't understand what an analogy is. You got so wrapped up in trying to flaunt your dubstep ego that you didn't read what was written

saying 'technically a dubstep classic" was a sarcastic way of saying that sweet shop is not a dubstep classic despite how popular it was. Follow me? That statement was used as an analogy to the nature of the font helvetica.

Adverbs and sarcasm can be tricky

if you're still confused I can't help you and I'm afraid no one can.

101 time bro.

I think it is you that doesn't know what an analogy is, or maybe you were temporarily incapable of working one? If you had said that sweet shop is a dubstep classic and analogized that to helvetica being a classic serif font, well you would have been successful in analogizing.

Or you could have said Rutten is a dubstep classic and analogized that to helvetica being a classic font, and again you would have pulled off an effective analogy.

Once again the fact that you failed to create an analogy, sarcastic or not... blah blah blah.
