Just got the DADDY of all MPCs

Post by GV1 » Sat Feb 26, 2011 4:39 pm

The MPC fanatics and the old skool producers will know about this. Copped it at £600 but it's in mint condition with memory expansion.

Oh, well done. Do you want a fucking medal?

Sorry, only kidding. I'm just jealous. My laptop has blown up and I can't afford to get a new one or get it fixed, so I can't make any music at all! Bah!!

Have fun with your new baby!

Yeah it's very clean. The guy that sold it me said he had 2 when they first came out and he rarely used the two together so this one just sat around. It came with a carry case and was bubble wrapped.

@ The guy asking what it is. It's thee cornerstone of hip hop, a peice of history, as is the EMU SP1200. It's a sampler/drum machine that outputs in 12bit. It was produced in 1988, unsure of when they stopped production but mine has recipet from 1988. It still uses floppy disks.

Pete Rock and J Dilla are most famous for using the MPC60, but the majority of the hip hop producers back in the 80's used the 60 or the SP1200. Some dubstep producers filter their samples through the 60 to give their sounds some dirt. Software has never been unable to replicate the 12bit sound from the 60. It's something Roger Linn is famous for.

You knowz dis. Out of all the MPC's the 60 has the better pads. I wonder why Roger Linn didn't work on other MPC's with Akai. I got the 2500 and the pads are stiff compared to the 60, the 1000 pads feel like bricks. I sold my 1000 because of the pads. NuAkia are ****.

Don't know a lot about mpc's but I do know those pads have a way better feel to em than my mpd24's.

I actually took my mpd apart yesterday to see how it works, also did the electrical tape mod on it. Thinking about getting
the thick fat pads from mpcstuff.com too.

I nearly bought a 4000, kicking myself for that one... but the pads, are kind of like what you think mpc pads are like before you actually play them. They were supple, just amazing touch, the only think I've ever touched that can trump the padkontrol for expressiveness.

My mpk pads are literally a joke in comparison. I did the electrical tape mod, and now they're responsive, but they don't really have the feel. I wish they had fat pads for the mpk49. I put a call into them, but they returned the call at like 7am, some particular morning I REALLY needed sleep, I was so mad, I never called em back. :6:
