You knowz dis. Out of all the MPC's the 60 has the better pads. I wonder why Roger Linn didn't work on other MPC's with Akai. I got the 2500 and the pads are stiff compared to the 60, the 1000 pads feel like bricks. I sold my 1000 because of the pads. NuAkia are ****.
Don't know a lot about mpc's but I do know those pads have a way better feel to em than my mpd24's.
I actually took my mpd apart yesterday to see how it works, also did the electrical tape mod on it. Thinking about getting
the thick fat pads from mpcstuff.com too.
i hated them... forat was kind enough to put the regular ones back on my unit.
this being said.. i wouldnt mind red pads.
Forat replaced MPD24 pads? That must have cost a fair bit for his labor, or did you get a custom paint job on it?
MPD pads are very thin. I liked my MPD 32. That was the first Akai product I ever owned. Hooked it up with reason. It later led to an MPC addiction.

had numerous talks about em with people...
first, they look gorgeous.. u kinda want to hit em...
but they only trigger well in the very middle.. hitting the sides, u often get no detection... its like if they were too thick to transmit any type of velocity information comin off the corners...
its also very hard to be precise with em velocity-wise... i remember i could only get very loud, very soft or kinda in between (everywhere around the same spot) notes...
my common reflex to get more precision, was to play and to keep my finger on the pad... like pressing down the key once i hit it.. (kinda like a piano or as if everynote was on hold setting so id have to hold it for it to trigger the whole sample)... very different from the pad banging people are used to.. that way of playing + the very sloppy feel of those raised bitches often lead to my finger to waddle all over a pad.. and causing machine-gun type triggers i didnt experience with regular pads..
maybe mine were installed unproperly, i didnt do it myself as my sampler came with em.. but i think the regular pads are proper bidness.
