Re: DSF Freeware VST Contest #3 (VOTE NOW!)
Hi a quick question....
what if I sample in my EMU SP1200 sampler or a Casio SK1 keyboard and "repitch" ? Reading your rules this is allowed but it will result in a glitchy 8bit sound.

paravrais wrote:Agreed. Considering what we had to work with I think everyones done really well...except maybe me XD I'm still quite pleased with my drums but the melodic elements just wouldn't sort themselves out.nowaysj wrote:Peace y'all. Bottom line is ALL of these tracks are DOPE, and that is no joking.
Really wish Blackout's producer had more time, that beat is sickness.
Mmm, I'm also really happy with the composition of my drums, as well. Spent way to long on 'em, at the expense of everything else, but fuck it, I'll call it a personal triumph as despite the fact they need a bit of fattening up, I've never managed to get such an unquantized, off the grid feel... ugh...Wisdomtooth & Strong painkillers and I'm rambling on, so can I just draw the future winner's attention to Superwave 8 as the next freeware synth for comp? (:

Re: DSF Freeware VST Contest #3 (VOTE NOW!)
I really like Blackout.. But it didn't go anywhere, it just kept repeating.. Most interesting intro of all these songs, but it didn't built up to anything. So I voted Cristal instead.
Re: DSF Freeware VST Contest #3 (VOTE NOW!)
I wanted to win this just for this reason.paravrais wrote:Nah, blates SQ8L, dunno why I didn't suggest that for this one to be honest :\

Re: DSF Freeware VST Contest #3 (VOTE NOW!)
Arabian Nights = dope track BTW!!!!!!!!!!!
Re: DSF Freeware VST Contest #3 (VOTE NOW!)
Oh yeah? Where's your tune Sirius?HomeNoiseRecord wrote:Sirius wrote:all these tracks are fuckn pathetic!! ahahahahh
man... there needs to be some tools always added to these comps,
ie. verb, delay, EQ, compressor!
!!chea
they were included in the download pack ?

And yeah, there were all of these (verb, delay, eq, compressor) included - some of 'em worked better than others for general purpose stuff and others were better at specific things. For instance, the compressor this time around (blockfish) works OK on drums but as a master bus insert... not so much.
Just to make sure also - Sirius my man, please make sure to vote if you haven't already.
I'm also a little suspicious. NOTE: I'm not accusing anybody of anything here, but it's odd that the tune's the last one in the set but has been listened to substantially more than the others (in the past the opposite happens... the farther down the set list, the fewer listens it tends to get.) If I didn't know better this could be the producer or someone else emailing all their friends and asking for their vote; having 20 more listens but even [disproportionately] more votes - that seems odd. I have no proof of anything though and cannot make the call based on conjecture. If the producer wants to discuss this, please PM me.paravrais wrote:Personally I have no idea how 'we like crystals' is winning by so much, it's ok, in the top half definitely but it's not the winner. Is anyone even listening to the late added track?? It's about a million times better than any of the others O.o
Yeah, as stated - contest portion is over this time around. But in answer to your question: you could put it into your SP1200 or your Casio SK1 only if that's your primary sampler, like - everything else got re-sampled the same way. Otherwise... no.Dubius wrote:Hi a quick question....

re: next VSTi (Superwave, Indian Dreamz, SQ8L) - you guys are pussies! How about Oscine Tract, motherfuckers?

Hey, would someone whose posts don't get ignored go and tell people in other subforums to get in here and vote please? Thanks.
Re: DSF Freeware VST Contest #3 (VOTE NOW!)
Word, that looks sweet, I cannae see a DL option there though :s where do I get it from?
Re: DSF Freeware VST Contest #3 (VOTE NOW!)
Old friend of mine from dancetech days, fucking dood is fairly looney.

Overall, the number of votes is pretty sad. Pretty much votes from the people who participated, plus like 3 people (haven't looked at the total votes, but last time, was priiity low) But that is a very minimal concern. I'm sure that everyone that participated in this derived a lot from the experience, probably more so than working on a regular track, in the regular way. I know I did.

Hahaha, I'm one to believe conspiracies like this, if you want to talk about Florida's voting patterns in 2000 and 2004 with the introduction of diebold voting machines, I could go on. But uh, Cristals is a dope dope track, it has been pushed further than many of the other tracks into a cohesive whole (in terms of sound design, arrangement, mixing, overall concept), so it's not hard to believe that it is getting a lot of love.alphacat wrote:I'm also a little suspicious. Re: DSF Freeware VST Contest #3 (VOTE NOW!)
Eh, i've come to feel if people are gonna trawl for votes, it's no big deal. It's not as if you can feel any sense of achievement if you win that way, same with voting for yourself.
but it's a bit of a shame there are so few entrants. I'm guessing a lot of people took one look at the selected freeware and all thoughts of entering died instantly (I mean, they don't look all that inspiring, huh?) but like, I'm sure everyone who entered will agree, the benifits of working like this are invaluable

Re: DSF Freeware VST Contest #3 (VOTE NOW!)
I think this is because it got mentionened in the comments a few times. That always boosts listens. When someone talks about a track others reading it will want to check what it's about.alphacat wrote: I'm also a little suspicious. Re: DSF Freeware VST Contest #3 (VOTE NOW!)
Could very well be. The track's producer has taken offense at my 'suspicious' comment; my reply is that if this is genuine and your track - which is excellent - is just doing this on its own then I apologize sincerely. It's just very, very unusual.
Anyway, fuck the drama. Poll ends in a few days.

Re: DSF Freeware VST Contest #3 (VOTE NOW!)
Yeaaah, Rainy Leaches had one of the catchiest melodys ever.
But why so few votes in this comp?! ...We need to introduce some beef. paravrais, maybe you have a sister I could take on a date, then never call her again?
