Any Guitarists in here?
Anyone here play guitar? If so what gear do you have?
I have been playing for 3 years but I'm looking to get into producing electronic music atm. I have a basic set up since I'm still a bedroom guitarist.
My Gear:
- Gibson Les Paul Studio
- Vox VT 15
- Electro-Harmonix Big Muff Pi
- Boss DS-1
- Behringer Hellbabe Wah (Piece of shit)
I also heard Distance and Boxcutter are both guitarists, not sure if there are any other dubstep producers that play guitar.

Re: Any Guitarists in here?
Yeah, I played guitar in bands through high school and a bit after until we broke apart. Moved on to producing because I was sick of putting together bands.
-Ibanez S Series, Danelectro Baritone guitar, Epiphone Acoustic
- Randall/Line 6 Half Stack
-Too many pedals

Re: Any Guitarists in here?
Hey, I've been playing for four years and have been/am in a hand-full of bands, one of which usually plays a show or two every month. I play mostly indie/alternative/post-rock/shoegaze and a little bit of emo (Not My Chemical Romance emo, stuff like Cap'n Jazz, Brand New and American Football). Producing is a new thing for me, but I still write on guitar a lot. I'm actually recording an album with the main band I'm in and am planning on going into the Jazz Studies program at the university here.
Here's what I use at practices:
Italia Maranello '68 Guitar
Digitech rp200a
MXR Script Phase 90
EHX Big Muff (Sovtek)
Boss DF-2
EHX Graphic Fuzz
EHX Stereo Memory Man w/ Hazari
Into a fucking beautiful original Fender Twin Reverb

Re: Any Guitarists in here?
I've been playing guitar on and off for 7 years. I'm not as good as that sounds like I should be though. I mean, I can play but my heart was never in it like it is with producing. I occassionally like to record some palm muted bluesy riffs and put them into a track with loads of reverb to give it a nice authentic dubby feel. Haven't done that in ages now actually, might get on that tomorrow.
Just a personal tip here but *personally* I've found that acoustic guitar can slip into electronic tracks much easier. Even if you're gonna still distort it to make it sound electric, I dunno why but I find the 'feel' of acoustic much easier to work with and it usually ends up with a nicer end sound.
I aint got much in the way of guitar gear but I have; a Dean Hardtail, Fender Acoustic, BOSS BR-600 and a lovely little 'retro' style fender tube amp that looks like it came from the 50's.

Re: Any Guitarists in here?
yeah with acoustic all the way. although a gibson les paul would be money in electronic tracks.
Re: Any Guitarists in here?
I've been playing pretty steadily for 10+ years, played in bands and quit that because I didn't feel like dealing with unwarranted egos and started getting into producing to become the next Trent Reznor and gradually started getting into more electronic stuff. I play a lot of metal, At The Gates, The Haunted, Soilwork, Lamb of God.
As far as gear goes:
Fender Stratocaster
Stratocaster clone that i made
Fenandez 7 string
Washburn acoustic
120watt Crate amp
no pedals, just the amp's built in distortion and verb
Also, if you've got a whammy bar, record yourself hammering away on it, chop it up and go through the process of resampling as you would with a synth. Can make for some pretty interesting results.

Re: Any Guitarists in here?
I have kinda played guitar since I was about 8, I have never gotten very far with it but I plan to start getting back on it soon. It sucks when you realize years in that your technique is fucked.
Re: Any Guitarists in here?
I play but havn't picked it up in well over a year. It's fair to say I'm not amazing.
Was in a band that fizzled out partly, I think, because I wanted to play Post-Rock, while the other lot wanted to invent new genres and be cool indie rockstars in NME. Did manage to record an EP which had some label interest in America, but it didn't materialise....
I will say though, there is a local advertising company with some badass Post-Rock as their website music WHICH WE
NEVER GOT PAID FOR.
But yeah, got a Boss RE-20 Space Echo. 'tis lovely.

Same here tooparavrais wrote:I've been playing guitar on and off for 7 years. I'm not as good as that sounds like I should be though.

I have an Epiphone Les Paul Custom (shame about the fact that it's colour scheme is cherry burst, I'm left handed so my choice in guitars is radically cut down, and the better looking one in ebony unfortunately sounded and played worse).
I had a Boss Metal Zone 2 and a Digitech Digidelay which I had to sell both of them to the pawn shop recently

I miss the Digidelay, it was the don for making ambient soundscapes with it's 4 second looping feature.
I also have a Fender Bullet 15 DSP (which to be fair has a nice clean sound and tremolo effect but everything else is shit).

Man my first band fizzled out when our drummer got pregnant (at the ripe old age of 16).JemGrover wrote:Was in a band that fizzled out partly, I think, because I wanted to play Post-Rock, while the other lot wanted to invent new genres and be cool indie rockstars in NME.

That totally bucks the trend that drummers are ugly and never get laidWrigzilla wrote:Man my first band fizzled out when our drummer got pregnant (at the ripe old age of 16).JemGrover wrote:Was in a band that fizzled out partly, I think, because I wanted to play Post-Rock, while the other lot wanted to invent new genres and be cool indie rockstars in NME.

Re: Any Guitarists in here?
i have a dickload of guitars, my favorite is my voodoo sg, i have a line6 vetta 2 though i wish i had a boogie or some shit like that.
oh well.
i stopped playing as much since im fucking too busy sitting at the computer clicking the mouse all the time now.
guitar approach definitely helps with producing dubstep. dubstep is metal i dont care what anyone says.
i been playing off and on for 11 years. its just a different type of expression and a different method of writing.
its good to go through phases , like techno, rock, techno , rock, etc.
i havent dropped dubstep since i found it though its mad addicting, you are in for a trip, this shit is intense to synthesize.

Yeah me too... I played in several rock, blues and metal (black & death) bands for 13 yrs before going solo. Sold all my gear (about $3,000 worth [pedals,amps,cabs,guitars,rack-modules, drums {was also excellent drummer}e.t.c]).makemerich wrote: i stopped playing as much since im fucking too busy sitting at the computer clicking the mouse all the time now.![]()

Just got an acoustic and a pawnshop bought cheap squier w/lil' 25 watt combo. I used to detest Djs and people who sampled because I thought it was uncreative and pure laziness, but I learn a lot in the last 3 yrs of learning in laptop music production. Now I'm sick of who can be the most technical/fastest.

Yeep been playing for over 10 years now (since I was 7 or 8 ). Best thing I've ever done, so glad I stuck with it as well.
Currently selling my old 2 guitars actually, Burns Marquee and and an Ibanez hollowbody.
Anyroad, currently:
-Gibson ES-335 62' reissue.
- Orange Tiny Terror class A valve combo.
- Dunlop Fuzzface.
- Ibanez WH-10 wah reissue.
- Boss RC-2 loop station (LOVE).
- Boss ME-50 (HATE, getting rid).
Next on the list is an EHX English Muff'n. Just gotta get some moolah together.
Here I am improvising over the top of an old Chili Peppers backing track.

Nice to see a good few guitarists around here. Do any of you guys record any guitar in your electronic/dubstep tracks?
