THIS! Save your lungs people, you're not gonna get cancer but smoke inhalation isn't good for anyone. When you burn weed, most of it's potency comes from the evaporated oils suspended in the smoke, not the actual burned plant matter. A vaporizer does exactly what it says: vaporizes that oil without burning. If you're doing it right, a vaporizer will extract about 70% of the psychoactive components, compared to 5-15% using flame. Definitely worth the money, cut my smoking in 1/4 and paid for itself within two months.

It's all about the ratio of CBD to THC. Sativas generally have a higher ratio of THC and are usually more stimulating and energizing, whereas indicas have a higher CBD content, which has more of a sedative and/or painkilling effect. For this reason, most medicinal strains are usually some form of indica. As a general rule sativas are usually bright green and indicas appear darker or purple, but hybrids and exceptions to this do exist...

I lived down in Phoenix for a few years doing the college thing, not really ballin' by any means so I was smoking a lot of dirty outdoor schwag (Good indoor in phx costs about 5x as much of what I pay here) which is almost always some Indica strain or ditch weed filled with seeds (for anyone who doesn't know, producing seeds reduces the oil output of the plant, and that's where all your THC is). During my time there I was in a few metal bands and a white-boy-reggae type outfit, and I found it nearly impossible to get the creative juices flowing if I was stoned. I found the odd time I smoked good-quality indoor or used a vaporizer it was easier to formulate ideas and get them out onto notes, but this was a rare occurrence.

Right now I live in pot paradise (Nelson is like Canada's Santa Cruz, but the shit's cheaper, about half what I paid in SC)
and have easy access to a huge selection of high-grade stuff, so it's easy to pick and choose what I feel like putting in my brain. I like to keep a selection of stuff for different uses, sativa for daytime smoking, indica for night, hash for party time (woo!). It's important to know what your cannabis is going to do to you, for example, I suffer from chronic insomnia and if I smoke some indica before bed I'm out like a light, but sativas tend to aggravate the problem. Same works the other way around, I find I'm lazy and unproductive if I smoke and indica during the day.

All of this aside, it's important to take breaks from constant smoking about every month or so to literally clear your brain out. For those people who have been blazing for ages and don't feel like they get to the same heights, it only takes about four days of cessation to completely reset your tolerance. Also, it should be obvious, but giving your lungs a break is really beneficial to your immune system. I'm on day three of my monthly cycle (hehe...better than bleeding out your snatch, thats for sure) and I haven't gotten much sleep, but I still feel energized and alert. This will carry through the first few weeks of smoking again, until I start feeling sluggish and the weed stops doing the trick, and then it's time to take another break.

I have tried a vaporizer, surreal experience. Mad how its gets the thc out and you are still left with the bud. Expensive though from what i have seen.

Not sure what prices are like in the UK, but you can get a decent one up here for under the price of an ounce of bud... But if you're looking, make sure the thing has a CERAMIC element, anything else will taste like pure asshole.

so there are a few types to choose from, I'll list from least to most expensive

Stone-style: these usually resemble a pipe and either require a lighter, or have one included and require butane. These ones work by using a porous lava stone to shield the herb from open flame, but aren't that effective (you usually just end up burning the weed with no temp control) and taste like lighters.
$40-$100can

Conduction style: These are the ones that look like they're from the future. They usually have a metal or glass bowl inside a jar-like glass dome and a hose to inhale from. This style works by heating up the bowl electrically to vaporize the oil, but they are time consuming to use (you have to wait for the dome to fill with vapor before you can use it so 15-30min) and usually burn the herb.
$60-$150can

Convection style: This is what you want. The weed has no physical contact with the heat source so if you're set up right there is no chance of burning your herb. They come in either whip (hose) and/or bag configurations, and they work by forcing heated air through the chrons. Either there is a fan that pushes air through or you use your lung power to suck air past a heated element. Whip or bag style is all preference, I find the toke from a bag can taste stale and I prefer my whip. The Volcano is a good example of bag-style, and it is one of the most popular and highly regarded (and expensive) vaporizers on the market. Lots of companies offer hybrid models as well.
$150can and up

Once your bud has been vaped, it loses most of it's THC obviously, but it retains a large amount of CBD, so it will get you "stoned" feeling, just not that stimulating.

Vaporizer is the best way to get high, because it is the most health way to do so.

Also get one in your rack;

I don't get high all the time anymore, but still do every now, and again :R:

Gonna have to disagree with Moki here. I got one of the original iolite handhelds as promotion through my ex's shope. Thing was absolute garbage. Burned my tokes, tasted terrible and it broke after about a month. I would have been sorely disappointed if I had paid $240 bucks for that.

Though I often smoke and produce I feel like I'm probably less productive have a tendency to fiddle with knobs more than actually try to get anything done. I rarely buy cheap shit "just to have smoke" anymore. It's really not worth it, most cheap shit around these parts seems to get my blood pressure up...a lot. I find that taking just enough of a puff to get a bit lifted and probably a stanky microbrew IPA to mellow it out is the best method.

Weed and music go hand in hand, like white and rice like peanut butter and jelly, but I can see that producing while high can be sorta degrading to the music, because what sounded good while producing high, might not sound good the next day with fresh sober ears....... that said, I love to smoke medical grade cannabis, as a mmj patient for chronic pain, I almost always smoke while producing while taking morphine for my pain. But i have to cut back while learning how to use my DAW and produce tracks , still learning the concept of mixing doesn't fare well for me while high. so I have to cut back, but at night I like to be creative, sometimes coming back in the morning and hearing the track makes me wonder why i thought it sounded good!

but weed is good for creative practices.

Usually...I walk into my creative space...turn on my candles...turn on some music and listen for 15 mins while griding my herb and packing my first bowl, I put the bong next to me and start working on a 64 loop. Once I have some drums down and I find some nice pads...boom headshot first rip and I start jamin with my guitar or keyboard...I take breaks every 45 mins and smoke anytime I start to get diff ideas down. Sober writing + high tweaking = good times.

i cant say whether its good or bad for you, because everyones brain is different, we react to weed differently and i dont know what grade you smoking!

but... creativity is creativity man, you either have it in abundance, a good amount or a trickle... weed won't coax it out, it'll probably make you think what you're playing is dope even if it aint. sometimes its nice to be sober, be clinical and make listen to your music fresh. i prefer to bunzoot when a tunes finished, like a reward...

if its pukkas ill probably get tooo lean and lost in my song and have no idea what my idea was 10 seconds ago, just moving shit around on a screen.

if your creativity is lagging recently i reccomend in no particular order:

espresso
exercise, good vigorous sweaty shit
sex
get a kids toy instrument and play with that (serious i been jackin my nephews toys)
make some field recordings
learn some music theory
play with a real instrument, preferabbly one you're shit at... that way you're more focussed on creating something which sounds good as opposed to shredzville
listen to music you don't know you like yet, seriously listening to only one genre is one way to make your music derivative and gash. listen to some contemporary classical if old school classical kills you, dub, techno, reggae, ska, calypso

and finally if it just aint workin... allow it! sometimes thats just how it is...

peace.

well I love to smoke, its great, plus in Montana I have access to some of the most chronic weed in the US cus its very close to being legal here. I like to smoke and produce, but I do have a difficult time concentrating after a toke. I know that my product is almost always better when I am working on it sober, things are more precise and my judgments are much more clear. I find it hard to strike a balance with my stoner self for sure.Regardless nothing is as fun for me as getting baked as fuck and making crazy bass patches.

I thought any and all cultivation in Montana was still a felony though...?

Beautiful state. I'd love to move there or Wyoming, but the wife won't hear of it.

The problem i find when smoking and tweaking i loopmong for long periods which is not good. For me and my workflow it slows me up and inhibits me of being able to achieve the simplest of tasks.Saying that its real bad when i smoke the toxic variety but where i come from in the uk that is veryvery rare because everyone seems to like selling poo weed!!!wankers :a:

I enjoy producing during/after smoking, but sometimes I end up getting too bogged down with the technical side more than the musical side.
I wish i had more hardware synths/samplers to jam with instead of getting sidetracked with computery stuff.
Need to get some more hardware in my setup, then it would be a dream.
