I always mess around with the automation of the LFO on the low pass filter, and ensure that my project is laid out in the most disorganised way possible, so that its really confusing when I'm sorting out the arrangement.
Also, I like sending mixer channels to other non-send mixer channels for some interesting sounds.
VSTs I always use:
Dub Siren by interruptor.ch
ymVST atari emulating synth (for wub wub bass)
3xOSC
Fruity Slicer
Pro 53
MS20
Beep map (sometimes)
The only 'trick' I use is automation, I automate shit loads of stuff in a beat, its the way forward.

Skream still uses fruity as far as I'm aware

A little trick I use in FLStudio to widen my sound:
Take a sample, put it in piano roll, and pan it to the far right.
Copy the piano roll bar, and pan this one to the far left.
Then move the second bar (panned left) a few milliseconds after the first one.
Be sure "Cut itself" is unchecked.
This will give you a very wide sound when applied correctly.
It isn't for FLstudio only (works in every sequencer/editor) but I use it in FL a lot

I'm pretty sure there is a gate/expander that comes with FLTopCatt wrote:Yeh that ones kinda big...ill deffo use that one...MCVV wrote:A little trick I use in FLStudio to widen my sound:

does anyone know how to 'gate' samples??
If note, the MDA dynamics plugin contains gate/expand and is free

I use FL for dubstep. Don't have too many tricks and don't use too many VSTs, so looking to see what others say. I've been using the TS404 for some bass and automating the speed of the LFO. Have one sample play the bass regularly and then clone it and have that one do LFO automation to switch it up.
Regarding the circular panning law...I've heard others say to shut it off because it sounds better and others say to leave it on. Basically it controls how the audio is panned and the perceived volume. When it's checked it uses the circular panning curve and when it's unchecked it uses a pyramidal curve. I'm thinking basically long and smooth (circular) or sharp (pyramidal) similar to crossfader curve settings.

Nah moit. Jus couldn't be fuked to write anything else. Sorry for being very unproductive. Actually heres one, not so much a production tip but if u wanna save on cpu when u got tonnes of plugins loaded, right click and smart disable them. This means the plugins will only run when u are running that channel.
Long time user of FL.even though i hate the name i still love the software. I run Minimoog 5, Z3ta and korg legacy. I've tried Reason but to me it just seems like a REALLY good array of vst's with a bad sequencing vst attached to it. since i don't use another sequencer (cuz i'm broke as fuck) i love using FL. enough ranting!
a couple of remedial tips... Save a custom layout to a new folder that you've created in FL's templates folder. Start FL, load template and close so the next time you open FL it loads YOUR template.
Change the the FL background to a hot picture of Jessica Alba.
Quick and easy Subbass: use 3x, drop the top two course (crs), x out the vol knob on the 3rd, fool around with the tuning for wobble, then punch away like a blind retard on the lower keys (no offense if you actually are).
Try an Lfo on the Color knob of the Blood Overdrive in addition to your other lfo for more variation.
when Blood overdrive isn't enough use the waveshaper.

My best fruity tip: Use good quality plugins! The built in sampler, slicer and 3X osc are very useful and versatile but just don't sound that solid compared to some quality 3rd party plugins (albino, vstation, anything native instruments). The new sampler, direct wave that comes with FL is a definate improvement.
Use the layer channel. If you must build your beats using the fl slicer and the built in sampler channels for your drums layer up a bunch of kicks & snares and trigger them with the layer channel. Makes things much easier!

Bring back the step... and the dub!
