How about you all just listen to what YOU want to listen to.
Next time a track gets played at a night you're at that's either too 'bro' or too 'plain', just go to room 2?
WHINE WHINE WHINE WHINE.

Yeah, like.... I think the Borgore take on dubstep is awful, but Clubroot represents to me the exact same mindset on the opposite side of the dubstep spectrum. It's like '80s adult contemporary music in a dubstep format.

"Brostep" and "future garage" are both rather awful to me. With exceptions like older Coki or Broken Note (if you'd call them that..) on one side and perhaps, Burial and Sepalcure on the other.
here's an idea... judge an artist and a track not a genre.

you might find you have more luck describing what you like and dont like.

cos writing off entire slabs of music with 'notable exceptions' just seems a bit silly...
I was merely drawing parallels between what people call 'brostep' and 'future garage', because most of the music that falls in either camp sounds like a watered down appropriation of something else to my ears.

Recognizing that, for example, most modern death metal sounds like same ol' crap to me, doesn't say I can't find beauty in individual bands, does it?

And weren't you slating modern hard/technoid drum & bass but a few weeks ago? Making Current Value a notable exception? Edit: nope, you were making Autonomic the big exception in the d&b spectrum. Same thing, though.
i cant remember exactly what i was saying but i think it was more along the lines of Autonomic were the only ones doing something really original with dnb, my main gripe with dnb is its too fast for me now anyway

if im guilty of double standards that just means i've made the same mistake you did... its still dumb to do.

Of all the music you've heard in your life, do you only enjoy a minority of it? Isn't this minority the exception to the rule?

There's nothing 'dumb' about it. It's the nature of the arts. Only a minority of the vast quantities that are being produced each day resonate with someone. And at one point did I state that the exceptions I mentioned are the only ones?

Look, you're missing the point of my post. I was stating that there's equal amounts of 'watering down' and 'formulaic songwriting' on either side of the spectrum and both sides suck for the most part (and for you, a clarification that all music in general sucks). So taking up the future garage side and religiously dismissing 'brostep' borders on hypocrisy.

what are you on about

you said sumat about brostep and future garage bein shit, then you said 'aside from these exceptions' (to paraphrase)

all i said was take each song as it comes and decide from there

dont think too hard about this, its well simple... what you like you like, what you dont you dont, expressing opinions about what songs you dont like based on a massive generalisation about a genre which exists as a massive generalisation in its own right is a bit dumb. i've been guilty of it, so have you.

cool? yeh, we're cool.

people just need to stop being such fucking sizan about dubstep, there seems to be serious trends to be at either extreme of the spectrum. all i ever hear these days is people either defending their love for brostep and filth saying that producers like mala and such are boring and repetitive, and the other extreme of people who will only listen to the most experimental and wacky sounding shit just for the sake of being hip. what happened to just listening to stuff you thought was sick. at dmz 6th birthday i spoke to some dude who said loefah had gotten shit and was making shite tunes these days as if he had some superior taste in music, then see him jumping around to funtcase and all the filth tunes. perhaps people should just actually fucking listen to some sick music instead of arguing about what wanky sub genre it is and who can and cant like it

omg people expressing opinions about music they like and dont like FUCK SHIT WTF?!?!?!

you dont agree, fine, you dont agree, who cares??
you

And I said that I didn't do that. Realizing that most of something sucks isn't mutually exclusive to realizing that some of it is good.

And that's exactly what I'm saying. Realizing that most music in general sucks doesn't exclude me from realizing that there's also music I enjoy. Realizing that most 'future garage' sucks, doesn't exclude me from realizing that some of it is good.

Mala, Coki, and any number of other producers made the equivalent of brostep in the early 00's and now you worship them.

Let's tone it down a bit

When did Mala ever make anything with a remote resemblance to brostep?!
And Coki makes HEAVY next-level wobbly dubstep with mad amounts of funk. That's not brostep, its HEAVY next-level wobbly dubstep with mad amounts of funk.

brostep has nothing to do with sound... the term comes from the people enjoying said music.

notice i said 'equivalent', I was referring to their lives before dubstep and how they were involved in quite the bro-y scene.

you can settle down now

Yeah and the people enjoying said music do because of the sound don't they. A lot of people here are seen as mindless haters who diss on 'brostep' because it is cool and they want to stay underground. It's like the eventuality of people dissing on 'brostep' because they don't like the sound is not even seen as pertinent anymore...
