Clear Fast Wobble?

Post by jrisreal » Sun Mar 20, 2011 12:05 am

I've been trying for a little while now to get this fast wobble sounding good. I don't know how to make a bass wobble fast but still sounding like a clear, clean wobble. If you don't know what I'm talking about, listen to datsik's track called Retreat and when the bassline hits the fast wobble, it sounds clear. If I were to do this with one of my basses, it would not be so clean because of the pitch of the bass wave itself not filling enough space between the pitch of the LFO. Do any of you people know about this?

Be specific as to which your actually talking about, talking about one specific wobble in Datsik and Excisions sea of wobbles is a needle in a haystack situation.

its about 0:57-0:58 in to the video...the bass wobbles really fast three times in one bar

EDIT: I think I hear a boost in resonance, which (since adding higher frequencies) should make the pitch fill more space in the lfo, giving a clearer wobble.
EDIT (again): I tried the resonance thing and it didnt work...hmmm

Uhh...try modulating the low and high frequencies at that point to make the highs go up a little and the lows lower? Dunno, just guessing.

exactly, but when I try to wobble like that, it just doesnt even sound like a wobble, its too fast for the waveform that I'm wobbling

maybe it's the certain bassline or sound that when at a fast lfo rate it may perceive to your ears to sound that "clean" different with each sound duh

I did what @TheBrownie said to do and added emphasis to the high frequencies when the bass wobbles fast.

Well it actually does make sense, since the higher frequencies vibrate quicker than lower frequencies. SO when you make them louder, more of the "bass" can fit inside of the faster wobble

How did you go about doing this then?
Don’t worry about people stealing an idea. If it’s original, you will have to ram it down their throats.

add an eq but keep the eq offline (muted, disabled, whatever) until the fast wobble happens, then turn it on while it wobbles and then turn it off again
