Help me pick hardware

After all reviewing I'm going with the Korg KP3, the NI Maschine, some monitors and going soft with Massive (for now). Still up in the air with a good external soundcard though? Also didn't mean to come off as a dick I appreciate all the time everyone took to drop a post and especially those who wanted to save me money great forum can't wait to post up some reviews and music (in time).

No midi keyboard? And do you have good speakers?

If you like to be super hands on, I think that newer novation controller stuff with automap is pretty dope. Automap is powerful and easy, everything is just always mapped, every plugin, synth, everything. It doesn't feel as solid as an mpk, but still. I miss automap.

Any daw will do. Live is great as is logic. For a more hands on approach i would suggest looking into NI maschine, its a great sampler and can also host 3rd part vsts. I The Korg KP3 is amazing.....you can make great sounds out of anything, handy for live situations as well and for dj'n.

I heard that you can only use the Maschine with the VST they give you? Is that true? If so that would kinda suck.

im sorry to be the one to do this but, why is it exactly that u want hardware over soft? u need to have a precise answer for that...

sounds like u need full on hands on experience...

if u want to go completely out of the box its gonna take years, thousands, and a lot of practice to get the same results than what ud get itb as a novice

wtf you don't know what your talking about I mean the rest of your post other than this is correct but say I took a subtractive synthesizer plugin and a hardware substractive synth sure the sound will be different also depending if it is analog or digital but the concept of subtractive synthesis will be the same! it will not take years its the same s**t as producing on a comp or fiddling with some hardware

Producing tracks entirely on hardware is a whole different ballgame then producing on the computer. Years is a realistic time frame if financial resources are even slightly limited.

maschine can host any third party plugs, not just NI ones. ITs awesome. i love my hardware synths...if you can afford it, its the way to go.

I assumed you had monitors and a soundcard.
These should be your first priority plus a midi keyboard of some description.

Without making a new thread any recommendations for a soundcard? And around how much will I be looking to spend? Is it worth getting a mixer with a solid built in card?

im surviving on a half crap m-audio fast track pro....its half decent and not a bad place to start. Having said that,im def going to drop a lot more money on a better soundcard. only problem the ones i want are over 400-500 pounds. Its done me well the last few years. focusrite saphire 6 is always a good choice for a bit more! NI do the audio x1 or whatever its called, about the same price as the saphire.

damn i didn't mean to be so harsh to Ldizzy. but i was referring to producing on a comp as that is what the OP is going to do at least I think so. hardware and software would be the same concept if it is all going to the pc.

Ok I'm bumping this instead of making a new thread, I've done some vs thread reading and looking around and have trouble deciding on a midi keyboard. As of right now I can grab a microkorg off craigslist for around $200 but don't know if there are better options in the 2-300 range?

either way it is supposed to be a very powerful little toy. i didnt use it but i know some people who use it in great ways.

Microkorg has to be the worst midi controller in the universe though. The most unplayable little keyboard. Some lady friends enjoy it, but I play it about as well as an elephant knits.

seriously, dedicated midi controllers are the shit and so many people overlook their manual ... proper mapping is wonderful..

i dont own one, but i will, someday, and ill use it properly.
