USB Soundcards

Post by zerbaman » Sat Mar 26, 2011 12:39 am

For a few months now, I've been unable to produce. Having a technical issue which has left my audio jack looking like this Image
What you're looking at is connector of my sub-woofer cable snapped off and stuck inside my laptop's audio jack.

My question is if a USB soundcard would be worth a shot?
And possibly, how would I go about sorting this myself? Anyone else had the same issue?

I've tried to get to the jack by opening the machine up from the bottom, but couldn't get there. I've been told that I'd have to go through the keyboard, but I've not got the tools or the faith in my understanding of computers.

Please, any help, the lack of productivity is killing me.

Looked at the ones displayed here so far, any suggestions?

Try using a small piece of metal which has a smaller diameter to your headphone jack, put some araldite on the tip of the metal and stick it to the connector. Let the araldite set and you should be able to pull the connector out.

Loctite Superglue? (same method as above)
Long nose pliers?

If theres a plastic rim around the jack you could try heating a paperclip then pushing into the plastic to melt it. Failing that superglue is the best method just make you you get the strongest one possible and leave it to set for long enough. Long term though Im guessing youll be after a usb interface anyway ?

If all else fails you could use an external soundcard for your speakers.
