Excision style - feedback needed

Post by Hedorah » Fri Apr 01, 2011 1:25 am

My first post, so please go easy :)

Nearly finished the new track, tried to give it an excision-ish sound. Would appreciate any feedback anyone can give.

And yes, I know there's a Mikey B tune with the same name. Should I change it? Or is the song different enough to let me keep it?

I'm not really a fan of the jump-up style all that much but you pretty much hit it on the head for what you were going for. I think your drum beat works good for the song and the wobbles aren't all that aggro compared to what I was expecting. I'm actually pleasantly surprised. My only rec is to change up the beat or bass line after the drop. This was really well done man, big ups especially from someone who isn't too much into this type of dub.

Thanks for the input dude. Glad u like the drums, that's usually one of my weaker points when writing dub.

Great sound, you are spot on!

A bit of criticism though is that a few of the bass lines sound sort of muffled compared to the others like they are in a box or muted out. I have found that it if I want to get rid of this effect it can be useful to layer the bassline and high pass one layer and add just the right of distortion and saturation to get some of the "scream" back in the bass. This is just one technique of many though.

Overall great post and I agree the drums are one of the stronger parts!

Cheers for the input so far guys. And no, I did not sample it lol. Took a lot of time to get that bass, and its still not quite right. Hear what you're saying Astrobear, I'll get on that soon.

+1 to everything thats been said. the drop is hard as #@$%!!! but the drums dont mirror it, they work good for the more ambient parts of the track, but Id fill in the kicks a little more when the bass is knocking and maybe add a set of highs in theres to make it pop a little more from the rest of the track... great treack though jmho

Honestly i wasn't too fond of it. But then I decided to give it a few more listens and I rather enjoy it! Great job!
