Basic dubstep question: What is bassweight?

Bassweight is a fairly ambiguous term used to describe the sound or more often the feeling of the deep, heavy bass - more often experienced in a club or party environment. It's certainly something you have to experience to connect with - otherwise, it's just a term that probably means very little.

Google's not the sort of place for an answer to that.

There's also a documentary called Bassweight about dubstep. You might find references to that too.

Some tunes have it in vast quantities, some have none.

Asking us what bassweight is, is a bit like asking Austin Powers what mojo is.

all you guys are fucking ridiculous . what is bassweight ? it's literally the physical vibrations from the bass that you can feel in your chest like a weight. deep heavy bass hits like a heavy weight . nothing more. and you can feel that shit if the system is proper. if you've never heard proper dubstep on a proper system, you don't know what im talking about

I think it's a pretty limited view of a whole concept. Bassweight is not only about frequencies and vibrations, it's about sharing those feelings with other people too. I think that, even if I had the Valve soundsystem for me alone and Neverland spinning, I would still be missing the community part of it.

not to knock everyones collective experiences, but you're romanticizing the shit out of it. bassweight is the weight you feel from deep heavy bass
