ABLETON AU Plugins different now?

Post by ShadowMachine » Fri Mar 25, 2011 8:13 am

THIS IS DRIVING ME CRAZZY!!!

for years now, Ive hated using Abletons AU's because you can't see anyting its just sliders, so you can't really see everything that is effected (frequecies and such),
BUT, the other day was on my buddies macbook pro (don't know if that makes a difference or not) and HE HAS A GUI FOR THOSE PLUGINS!...searched EVERYWHERE and nothing comes up thru google, abletons site, nothing...

if anyone knows how i can get mine to show like that, please tell me...

if you still a little unclear as to what i mean... click on the vst button on the left side (looks like a plug)>>>>Audio Units>>>>Apple>>>and load AUHiPass

if its just sliders that go left to right, same as mine...but my friends has a space where you can see the frequency band like in a EQ-8....

I just tried this and I get a GUI too.

I've never seen the need for the system AU devices so never bothered trying them before now.

In case it helps I'm running 8.1 Suite on 10.6.6.

screenshots?

to see the sliders for those you would have to press the arrow button to expand that section, it sounds like there is some way you've compacted the view so you can't see the synth/fx controls but still can press the arrow button to expand the view with the sliders.

for anyone else reading this thread that may ever need advice, please note screenshots make it a million times easier to diagnose problems and will probably mean your question gets answered quicker.

Click the little spanner on the plug-in instead of clicking the arrow.

My guess is you are running leopard and your buddy is using snow leopard, you get the basic GUI on leopard.

same version of live, whatever the last update was...
and I cant see it being that hes on snow leapord, and im on leapord....
the reason being, its ableton, I cant see ableton making it look to find out what OS your running, and give you different features... just doesnt make sense to me... but hey, crazier shit has happened....

do you have garage band installed?

could that be it?

cuz my buddy has that installed but I dont and if they ship with the OS (the AU's) then maybe its that....maybe it was an update for garage band?

this is going to sound retarded also, but

Is there any way to add FX (reverb for instance) to just one clap in a row of claps

For example

- - - - - -

I just want reverb on the 3rd clap, to trail off into the oncoming claps, but they have much less reverb.

I suppose you just layer one with normal reverb, and one with the big big big reverb, OR automate the wet/dry to just that one clap (but doesn’t work if they are tightly together in the tune, as then the reverb will go away once the automation finishes) I sort of want it to trail into the other claps.

The only reason I ask is I swear you can do it in Reason? Spose the only thing to do is layer the claps up as per above.

Not a big thing, just curious.

Yes there is. Put your reverb on a return channel, 100% wet. Then automate the send of the tracks with the claps, so that the signal is sent only during the third clap. :)
