Yeah, Dance Metal lol.

Cheers for all the ideas guys. Think we're gonna have to rethink the collab idea after all. If we ever come up with something that works, I'll be sure to share it with everyone.

"Dance metal"... haha i hadn't thought to call it that. my friends have been calling skrillex just "smash music". regardless, some of doctor P's stuff could be in the direction that you're looking.

Listen at 4:33, it's a simple idea but yeah, hopefully it helps.

Been going over a few things, and we've decided that the only way this is going to work is if we make it drumstep rather than dubstep. Mostly coz it's difficult as hell to write metal riffs at anything less than 180bpm. We're workin on a prototype atm with a midi guitar track, I'll put it online once it's done so we can get some feedback.

And anyone who's wondering what dance metal is, just click here: http://www.unsigned.com/skullcage and listen to "imbalance", gives a pretty good idea of what he does. Even though he hasn't done any vocals yet.

I'm not even clicking the link, but difficult to write metal riffs at less than 180 bpm? You pulled that number right out of your ass. I used to play for metal bands, it's really not hard.

You really aren't breaking new ground here, Just continuing to post like we care.
And the annoying part is that you seem to know nothing about either genre you're on about.

Most metal riffs i write tend to be between 100-140 bpm  Sounds more like you want to do a speed metal dubstep fusion? If it's difficult for you to write metal riffs slower than 180bpm then why not do some form of metal dnb? SORTED! :B:

EDIT - read the whole post before responding!!

Sorry, didn't really make myself clear in that post. What I meant is that It's difficult to mix speed riffs with a 140 tempo. Dubstep or trance can sound huge at 140bpm, but every time I write metal at that tempo it sounds more like a ballad. So if the dubstep sounds fast but the metal bits sound slow it becomes a problem.

Never heard of Drumcorps, I'll defs give them a go.

This thread came up when I searched "Metal-step" under the Google search engine, I read it and had to register to this forum so I could post something. This is in response to the BPM incompatibility of metal and Dub-step and was something of concern for me as well because I'm in the process of trying to produce listenable Metal-step. Basically what I have been doing is having the guitar riffs and bass wobbles at between 140-180 BPM with the drums at exactly half the time (70-90).
Than I will switch it up and have the guitars and bass wobbles at 70-90 BPM and have the speed "power drums" twice as fast (140-180). My progress has been fair however my guitar player really needs to catch up to me musically, and he kinda has a learning disablity. So at this point I'm not sure if I should take him seriously or if I should just try to emulate the guitars, but it's hard to find good metal guitar emulation.
I have "NI" Komplete 5 and "Yamaha" Motif X6 so there are some guitar samples that work fairly well for solos and power chords, but the muting isn't up to par. Anyways, I know it's possible to have Metal-step because I have a PERFECT image of what it should sound like in my head. And I tell you what it really does blend in perfectly and sounds FUCKING bad-ass; Now its just a matter of actually producing what's in my head down to "paper" (recording in the DAW). Musically I'm confidant in producing the bass wobbles and metal drums, now it's up to my partner to learn his shit.
Tell you what though if he doesn't take this thing seriously I'll just try to get by on my own without him; Because I'm not gonna wait forever for this guy to get on board musically.
EDIT: Also with the halftime not being compatible with blast beats and rolls and shit there is a way to kind of work around that. And that is to have the snare at half time with the bass drum regular, I know this sound weird but I will post an example of what I mean when I get home from school and in the studio. I might try to make a sample of what I want to do with Metal-step. I know in my heart it is possible and I will make it happen... So it doesn't sound like shit...

o really?
Yes this is what I mean but it's not quite there musically. The whole track sounds like its leading up to something that never comes. It's produced nicely but jut has no direction and totally leaves you hanging. This needs like a sort of chorus with but instead of singing have a really hard fast guitar riff, just to change it up.
