I don't see a problem if they legitimately want to know how to get a specific, quite "niche" sound. But when they want a Doctor P lead or Skrillex bass it starts to grate.

Looks like a whine thread lol so I guess I don't need to read the whole thing. I think I am about done with this site tbh. I am logging in less than once a week now. I hope I have most of the good folks from here on facebook or whereever. Of course facebook is giving me a migraine too.. I dunno.

wait....

i seriously learned 90% of what i know about music production from this forum. i like deadly's idea of making people post a certain number of times or whatever before being able to create a new thread. maybe that's a dumb idea, i don't really understand forums, all i know is this forum gave me the know-how to make some decent music, and i'd really like the info to be passed along. i don't have the ability or skill to coach the newbs, but a lot of people on this forum who say they are bailing do know how, so stay? maybe?

maybe desperate times call for desperate measures, and those who have never contributed shouldn't be allowed to clog the forum with stupid repeat threads...

You really think so? I don't see them serving the same function. But then what do I know?

there's still people relatively new to the scene that listen to the old school shit, and don't listen to be "cool" or whatever.

myself included, i've been listening just over a year, all my friends hate it, but i fucking love it eh.

I know I was only a late comer to this once-amazing forum, but it really has changed. Since the new year really, its just got almost insufferable. I wish there was some sort of filter

i dont think its anything to get pissed off by... its more like a side effect of the internet with its all-access information structure

why spend so much time experimenting when you can be shown how to do it right the first time?
getting you ahead of countless hours of experimentation, not removing it from your process

i know ppl are going to hate that statement... but the positive side of all of this, is nobody is special now just cause you have a "sick bass sound"
no nowadays everyone has "sick bass" so what makes you stand out is..... "something else" im not sure what

^FASLE.

this community has been here for a long time... being part of it for a little more then a year, even i feel there's been a change..

doa has a grid thats full of very good info and people do troll but theres so much good info out there on the internet..

gearslutz is not trollific...

i think it has lots to do with all that mass appeal around dubstep...

some to do with the younger generation... who cant postpone gratification for most parts.. but thats another debate..

and some to do with the single, banger, rinseout musical culture we live in...

(damn i love this shit)

...and these things are all somehow related... but we're drifting from the subject...

i think DH simply wanted to point the obvious.. hope itll change some mentalities...

anyways. i love most of yall guys...

bingo this stuff has always been present here, it's just that more recently it's become overly saturated with this crap and honestly it's making this place intolerable for most part which is a shame (and it would seem i'm not the only one with these sentiments)

making this place intolerable?? why not just ignore the threads that you don't want to answer?

i don't see anything wrong with wanting to learn how some of the pro's made their sounds. its only natural to look up to someone. i agree obviously that everyone needs to learn synthesis etc, but knowing a bit about how a sound was made can't hurt! and there will always be newbies asking the same questions over and over in any field, even since i joined i've seen the same threads come along. what daw to make dubstep lol, skrillex bass, etc. i just ignore them!

^ have you ever been to a party, like in your life? If you go to a party and it is full of people you don't like, yeah, you can ignore everyone, but uh, it begs the question as to why you're at the party in the first place.

A more appropriate analogy would be that we were having a quality party, and then a crew of true idiots showed up by about a factor of 10:1 and just spoiled the party. So what do you do, you don't ignore the fact that you're totally overwhelmed by idiocy, you just leave and go to another party without all the douchebags.

your reply sounds jaded. i'll ignore the petty jibe, yes i have been to partys, and as for why we're here in a music production forum, er... perhaps its to ask questions about MUSIC PRODUCTION!

and as for idiots showing up... i'm sure that you're wrong about that. its common for people to remember the 'good old days' as being better. there have always been idiots about and always will be!

obviously what we need is a cleansing wave of quality threads

but to be honest i can't imagine a thread that hasn't been there at the moment. there's a lot of riddles left unsolved, but these tend to be weird basslines that can't be explained by anyone other than the guy who made it. the problem here is that for example on DOA, where these threads tend to be about neurofunk basslines which is infinitely more mindfucking than dubstep for newcomers, they have maybe 10 GIANT threads about this. here it's a new one every week and apart from that we only have the stuff that's only informative for people new to production, short questions like 'i can't find the arp in my synth' or so, and threads about new gear/software.

what's left to discuss really? there's got to be something. maybe we could make a stickied thread dedicated to some random non-dubstep genre every month or so, where we all can contribute something that's not common knowledge around here.

the difference between those DOA threads and the ones on here is that the guys will experiment about trying to replicate something, share what they did and it keeps building upon that by people who are after techniques and not specific i wanna sound exactly like this give me exact settings
