Post by ponte_ricky » Mon Apr 11, 2011 3:20 pm

try sharing sc on facebook, not particularly invasive and it reaches a lot of people if you have a fair amount of friends or a well supported artist profile

I can't stand when people share tunes to me and 254,500 other people

send your shit to your DJ friends, and if you wanna sign tunes find the labels you's like to be signed to..

contact their A&R, and ask them how to submit a demo for consideration

thats the thing i too hate it when i get spam so i dont like spamming other people. i'll try sending my tracks round to labels, promoters and dj's

a mate of mine who makes tech house told me that he has a mailing list of labels that he sends his tracks to and he's managed to get a track out on toolroom which is pretty impressive

cheers guys

I instantly block someone on soundcloud if they spam me with one of those. It's annoying really cos the private tracks feature on there is actually a really nice addition but most people don't use it in the way it was intended.

I do the same thing.

Instantaban for them. The C&P drafted messages on my SC inbox are very annoying too.

There are lots of promotion groups on soundcloud and facebook - youtube is also a great outlet.

I remember reading in a forum or a book or something that one guy burned a bunch of CDs of his tunes, taped a condom othe front and called it a 'safe sex kit'. He just dropped a few in a club, and they ended up reaching the right people. It was some house producer (I think, I heard this a while ago) and it worked alright from what I heard.

I'm definitely not the best at self promotion (0 releases so far, and 0 local support haha) but I'd say, if you want to get something released try getting some local support through DJs, and then send a demo to some labels that have the sound you like.

If you want tons of views, try the Facebook/creatively making safe sex kit route. That could get you the hype you need for a label to find you, if the tunes are decent enough.

Also, don't underestimate remix contests. Whenever I hit a wall I just make up a remix, I've gotten a few views through that...

i've burned cd's, written the important stuff on em, and handed them out to people after events for the drive home.
