I did a hip-hop beat a while back that uses cut-up samples from a Willie Hutch track. He did the soundtrack for Foxy Brown, all his music is incredible. I have a love for funk but haven't figured out how to incorporate it into my electronic music. Here's the beat if you wanna hear:

yea sort of like c/cousins, but the sound has moved on alot since then, the real rough and ready stuff, although yea if people are making that in here i'd sure be interested in hearing it!

Let me post some good examples of what I mean (I don't mean funky house btw)

sorta like this

but then you got peeps like lil silva who are running away with the game with shit like this, 2 FUCKING FUCKKKKEEDD!!!

Play that one all the time, MAKES ME WILLLLEEE OUTT!!!

ive tried to do it a couple times.. i have patches in my arsenal that beg to be part of a funky joint.. i just hate most of the melodies i produce over funky like rythms...

i think it is very hard not to sound cheezy when producing in that direction..

What do you mean when you say cheesy mate? I'm against cliche's at the best of times, but anythings got to be better than what dubstep is chucking out at the moment... cheesy is good you know, it's all about those short, sharp chords that just chug/roll the track along nicely.

would love to see this thread gain pace, please don't think your ish is cheesy!! It probably isnt!!

:) thank you mate.

i just need to learn proper chord theory.. as i only play by ear.. i have a tendency to produce strictly lame minor chord progressions...

thats what i mean by cheezy...

i didnt want to imply the style is cheezy... Paleface aint cheezy at all.. :D.. it just requires some taste i guess...

ive been away from the style recently... but i find it very very natural to produce with that rythm... ill try again sometime..

I don't know if I qualify - my bpm is a good bit slower than what is posted already. also more funky in an "oldskool" sense, I guess

For those who are a bit confused about whats being discussed in this thread.
Wikipedia article on UK funky.

As for me, I've been incorporating elements of the sound into my pop productions but noone (in the business) is really feeling it at the moment. For my mind, it's a genre that could easily expand into the commercial realm with "good" results.

i thought it was going to break into the mainstream like garage did when 'in the morning' came out, but for some reason it never. Track is a bit too sparse to do well commercially, but o well.

If anyone needs any more pointers I have a DJ Petchy set from Live FM I'm thinking of uploading, bear MC's, bear RUDE tunes, that's what I'm after, pure rudeness (not wobbles, or any dubcrap influences though, if it's actual good dubstep influence, then fine)
