Sometimes I feel like getting traktor so I can get new tunes for free/cheap when I want something new to mix with - but then I look at my records and have this face
Whos everyones vinyl ONLY dj?
Theo Parrish for me each and every!
and so ? is there any advantage to have a physical collection ?Are you even bothered that you won’t have a physical collection when your older?
dj $hy wrote:I guess this is the point! For me back in the day it was a way of life, fashion - everyone I knew was a vinyl junkie! Thing is I dont agree with the $ thing cos jesus I only had £15 a week and I still managed it but then I guess if MP3's were about I may have gone that route as I just wanted more and more music!LA_Boxers wrote:some people may not care/have thought about the future when purchasing digital. Input trust me you'll never regret buying it, only regret selling it!
Drokkr mate my whole house smelt like Big Apple Records last night!
And one day your hard drive gets dropped and your years and years of music has gone! Sounds pretty shit to me! Plus where is the fun in browsing through a hard disc? Each to their own but working in IT i knwo that all HDD's have a shelf life n restoring cost dollar...Dr_Driller wrote:in 10 years people will just own a huge collection of mp3 or wav, and they will still have the same quality than when they bought it.. while most of my 15 years old vynil were fucked up and barely listenable....Are you even bothered that you won’t have a physical collection when your older?
Very true bro, I moved to serato purely cos I couldnt afford to keep cutting dubs! Its deffo easier with the display but you still get to touch a record so it ticks all the boxes for me. Only tried CD's a few times but I felt so disconnected from the actual tune I just didnt liek it. Oh and the fact they cost so damn much! 2 CDJ's n your 1.5 g's deep!dindin wrote:I only got my first pair of 1210's in january and i just love the feel of vinyl. When comparing it to having a mess about on my mates cdj's it just feels so much better. Even when having a go on serato on someone elses 1210s although youve got more choice of tunes with the digital releases being pretty amatuer at mixing it kind of takes the fun away from learning when you can see cue points and the soundgraph of each tune
Thats why you buy an external hard drive and back it up on that like I do with all the MP3's that I buy off Juno, still buy cd's of bands/producers which I think are amazing. Only own two vinyls, one being Rusko - Woo Boost and Burial's Street Halo EP.dj $hy wrote:And one day your hard drive gets dropped and your years and years of music has gone! Be-1ne is bang on, the price of even MP3's have gone up but records stay at the same price whcih does mean they are cracking value! I would pay £6.99 for a record 8 years ago and I would still pay the same now... Work that out!
And no one has even touched on the quality issue...
Er, backups?dj $hy wrote:And one day your hard drive gets dropped and your years and years of music has gone! i'm actually quite glad that they haven'tdj $hy wrote:And no one has even touched on the quality issue...
i have 3 backup.. one on a external drive at home, one on the computer of my girlfriend and kind of a best of on my phone. And one day your hard drive gets dropped and your years and years of music has gone! this is the only point, it's really more fun to seek with vynil, btw on hard disc it is really harder to remember all the tracks, i have to remember the name of each tracks which is hard, while with vynil i just saw the picture and i knew which tracks it was.Plus where is the fun in browsing through a hard disc
As I said mate I work in IT industry, fully aware of backups but MOST people are too lazy, dont think about it until its too late. And more to the point I just dont see how owning a hard drive full of music compairs to having vinyl! I get all the reasons why we have to have it - I've been playing MP3 only sets for years now but I can tell you in that time I have deffo lost dubs, misplaced or wrongly deleted. I dont have that worry with my vinyl collection, all I have to worry about is if it gets scratched.... Whcih it wont! Oh and a house fire... But its all insured so funk it!slothrop wrote:Er, backups?dj $hy wrote:And one day your hard drive gets dropped and your years and years of music has gone! If you're sensible about it (and buy DRM-free stuff) you've got no need to lose your data just because it's digital. Certainly it's no more likely than getting your records scratched or worn out or even jacked...
I loved every sexy word of it lol!badger wrote:god that sounded sickeningly romanticdj $hy wrote:And no one has even touched on the quality issue...

Init dude, thats why I have a spare pair of 1210's in my loft all new n untouched so in 50 years time I can crack em out, wire em up to my future stereo n say "Kids, its time to mother fucking feel the bass" haha!Be-1ne wrote:Can you imagine in 50years time sitting with your grand kids and uttering the words..... i remember the day i downloaded that song...!
Not quiet the same as going on a mission some where to check out the local shops and seeing what gems you can find that you missed. Couple of years back one of my mates picked up Loefah's Mud 12" for 4 quid. Mint! You wont find that sat behind a computer.
