Manipulating Speed of a Wob
I don't really know the terms on how to describe it, and I know it's probably it's one hell of a noob question, but I don't know how to manipulate the speed of the wobble in a bass (for instance, sliding a wob from 4 wobs per bar to 16 per par) during a song. The only way I do it is having two of the same sound, one at 4 wobs per bar and another at 32 per bar.
If this makes any sense, could I get some help, if needed I could provide examples in certain songs.

I found a way to get piece of mind for years and left the hell alone, turn a deaf ear to the cellular phone
Re: Manipulating Speed of a Wob
Look into automation for your DAW, enough said on the subject really.

Oh shit, might be right xD What about manipulating filters?djake wrote:Look into automation for your DAW, enough said on the subject really.

Re: Manipulating Speed of a Wob
Firstly its called the LFO.
Secondly the method you use of having cloned sounds at different rates is a good method, because automation is unsyncable and a complete earsore if not synced perfectly.
And a final note your lfo rate should never be 1/32
thats just gnarly.

<keep it heavy>
Re: Manipulating Speed of a Wob
^^ sweeping generalizations and falsehoods. Automation is perfectly "syncable". and theres no rule against 1/32 rates.

Well I know how to use low frequency oscillators to generate a tone at a certain speed, I just wanted to know how to change that speed in a songLectric wrote:Firstly its called the LFO.![]()

1/32, eh? Crazy shit? Usually I stick to around 2/8 2/16, but I'll check it out hahaha
Thanks for the help

Re: Manipulating Speed of a Wob
You need to make sure the LFO is tempo synced in your VST synth or whatever you're using and then when you change the automation envelope in your DAW it will move from like 1/4 to 1/4T to 1/8 to 1/8T and so on. The values in your DAW won't usually readout the rate so you'll have to experiment with it. Like for me, values of 0.53 - 0.55 in my DAW are equivalent to a rate of 1/8 when I'm at 140 bpm.
Cloning the sounds and resampling the audio is a good idea if you've completely gotten the sound of the synth to your liking, but otherwise you won't be able to go back and change any of the synths parameters while the track is running (which I like to do). Creating multiple instances of the synth is also bad because it will consume a lot of CPU.
What DAW and synths are you using?

many answers to this question can be answered with a quick google search..just sayin..
but seems like these guys ^ have pointed you in the right direction

Re: Manipulating Speed of a Wob
if you tell us exactly which daw/vst you are trying to accomplish this on, it would be possible to give you step-by-step instructions.

I am using FL Studio 9 and Massive. I really fucking hate google for searching actually, brings up so much bullshit that I can't use.

Turn the LFO rate knob
go to the top left corner of massive, hit last tweak parameter . edit events
draw lines. Watch as knob moves how your line is drawn... realize this is what youve been missing forever n a day.
Or...
Hit the record button, hit 'everything'... then hit play, and tweak the lfo rate knob while your track is playing back...
hit stop, and turn record off.
Hit play again... note the knob moves exactly how you moved it.
Yes this works on basically anything in the program, including the bpm counter.

My english teacher gave me a weird look when I mentioned that as the musical instrument I played. Like the wtf stare. I had to give her the 'wiki wiki' dj motion to confirm what i meant.

You lost me, I went to the top left of massive, only thing there about Parameters was 'link all parameters' and 'browse parameters'Basic A wrote:Turn the LFO rate knob

Re: Manipulating Speed of a Wob
same here, i use browse parameters, then move the desired parameter and it should pop up in the explorer on the left-TraX- wrote:You lost me, I went to the top left of massive, only thing there about Parameters was 'link all parameters' and 'browse parameters'Basic A wrote:Turn the LFO rate knob

Re: Manipulating Speed of a Wob
It should be to the left in your browser, you could also open it by looking there, going to "Current Project" and openinng underneath "Generator" and going to the parameter you want - for the LFO rate knob just wiggle it a bit and it'll highlight it.
You can do it by editing events as Basic A said or by creating an automation clip, both methods work fine.
And dude next time just use the search, I had this question more than a year ago and I just did a quick search and found it almost immediately.
