I don't experiment as often as I probably should. I mean I experiment with different sounds in a track as I'm working on it, but 90% of the time those experiments go unused or just get deleted. The last few months I've been trying to really work on using pads more. Which has spawned a few ambient tracks I've made specifically for my own learning purposes. I even put them up on a secondary soundcloud mainly for some friends and stuff to listen to. The one I think I like the most is this one:

Soundcloud

The "beat" was created specifically from cutting up the recording of the train. I ended up doing that a second time and it became the beat for "In Motion" in my sig. Some of the stuff I did with the pad in night train also went into the pad in "In Motion" as well. I think it's the first time the experimentation of one track lead directly to me creating a second track.

Some crackin stuff in here.

Most of the experimental stuff I do is under my other project called Chuggin Petrol. It's more hip hop sounding, but with weird grooves and sounds, have a listen.

If you dig it, theres more on my soundcloud.

Thanks hurtdeer and Basic. There's no love like DSF love.

The background track on that clip is an original tune called Heavy Air:

Soundcloud

All of the music in the piece is by me. Heavy Air is probably the most traditional dubstep tune in the performance, so I'm glad you thought it was far out on its own. I've never heard of Sarah Nicolls but I'll be sure to check her out. I'd really like to collaborate with more people, but (as you can imagine) it's pretty uncommon to find artists doing similar work. In the long run that fact will hopefully set me apart, but right now its kind of a pain.

I'd say I'm pretty experimental. Mostly because I have chord progression.

I like this thread...

Built this track around an improvised guitar jam I recorded the other day... it's a bit of a trip

An experiment, is an experiment. The results don't have to be "good" to be useful. Put 'em up!

hankerins wrote: Also, I just finished my senior thesis project at University and I think anyone interested in this thread would dig it. It's a dance performance set in a pitch dark room with infrared lights hanging from the ceiling. The infrared light (combined with an infrared camera) allows me to follow the dancers' movements in the dark and project abstract silhouettes of them directly onto their bodies. I then process these silhouettes even more in real time, merging them into one another, diffusing them across the room, etc. Also, we have a segment with no projections, where the speed of a solo dancer's movements controls both the playback speed and pitch of a saxophone recording, as well as generating midi notes to play samples and synths from logic. Its hard to explain, but this (very low quality) video of one of our rehearsals might give you an idea:

When I have a high quality video of the whole performance I'll come back to share that too.
Our show performance debuted last week so I thought I'd come back and share it with you guys. I made a new thread for it, check it out here:

I have some 90 BPM, more Dub inspired tunes that shift up to 180 BPM 4x4, atmospheric, psychedelic stuff.
interested?
