Best - Melkweg, Amsterdam.
Flew out to catch DMZ on the birthday weekend, and soundsystem was insane. Could literally feel the air pressure changing when bass heavy tunes came on, and this was the far side away from the sound system.

Worst - Fire, Ipswich
We dont get many decent dj's here, so was hyped when Caspa was on the bill. It was just awkward... The decks were crappy and the needle kept skipping, and the soundsystem was just embarrassing. Caspa would be dropping tracks, everyone ready to skank, and all you get in place of the bass and mid range was a crackle. He was having to turn the gain right down just to stop it. He even took to his twitter to complain afterwards and frankly, im not suprised. Funny thing was they were advertising on an event page about how they had upgraded the sound system especially for that night.

Needless to say, this was about a year ago and no dubstep djs have been since...
Typically, the percussion will pause, often reducing the track to silence, and then resume with more intensity, accompanied by a dominant subbass

Interesting but unsurprising how everyone has approach this thread!

Bass weight:

Valve (back in the day): They mostly only play rubbish on it these days, hardly use it and when they do they put it in a rubbish venue. Bring back the days of Brixton Mass

Aba-Shanti-I: Pretty bone crushing bass when the taps are properly opened up like the last 20 minutes of every carnival weekender

Channel One: No way as bassy as Aba-Shanti-I but slightly warm with the ability to still belt it out

Iration Steppas: Can sound a little too digital but that probably has a lot to do with the tunes they play / produce. Still a banging soundsystem.

Mass set up at DMZ: Saying that the last few I have hit haven't sound as bass heavy!

Clarity:

Plastic People: When the DJ gets it right! Bass levels can be pretty intense but it all depends on what is being played.

Corsica: Prefer room two by the subs but both rooms sound nice. A proper set up Funktion One rig can never miss!

Nine Bar: Didn't put it in the insane bass category because Funktion One bass levels are more than acceptable but don't seem to get to that level the dub soundsystems opertate at.

Fabric: I'll throw it into the 'clarity' category purely because the bass is decent but I have never been blown away. The levels always seem to be on the point!

Warmth:

Luck Cloud Soundsystem: Supply the sound for the Loft parties that David Mancuso runs (think disco, funk, house, afrobeat, basically good soul music). The sound just floats around you and everything is clear without being harsh. I appreciate that the style of the tunes and old production values have a lot to do with it! Real audiophile type soundsystem......

Jah Shaka Soundsystem: Can be pretty bass heavy and sometimes harsh but when it is just perfect it has a certain depth that commercial soundsystem or clubs instalations just can't seem to produce.

Can't think of any others at the moment but I'm sure I have witnessed loads of others (Only heard Mango HiFi once and I was very drunk so wouldn't like to comment..)

That Dirt system is without a doubt the most punishing thing I've ever heard.
Mungos HiFi rig is the best rig I've heard though. When I first heard about it I thought it was just gonna be like a 20k Funktion 1 install but with more bass, but I couldn't have been more wrong. The clarity is rediculous.

+1 for Mungo's being the best rig i've heard.

it absolutely smashed it for DMZ a couple of years back.

I'm not denying that Valve has been rubbish for a good few years now, for whatever reasons. Probably doesn't help that all that gets played on it now seemingly is mid-range jump-up D&B.

Heard Manchester's Herbal Sessions Soundsystem for the first time a few weeks back, that was pretty nice, very warm bass

Ninebar is entirely Turbosound, doesn't even look like Funktion 1.

Heard half of Mungo's last week. Incredibly clarity, not nearly the loudest but still had punch.

Another dose of Dirt tomorrow night; Youngsta, Kode9, Photek, Pinch, Gemmy, Jakes, Peverelist...WEIGHT!

Hey all, just found this old thread whilst doing some google searches for my website, interesting what pops up! anyway I'm Jeff and I own the ninebar sound system, just thought I would add some input to the thread, our system uses a combination of custom built LAB horn subwoofers and Turbosound Aspect 880H mid high cabinets. The subs are painted turbo blue which is why it all looks like Turbosound.

It's great to hear that people were putting the system in the clarity section as this is generally how I set it up, the big sub bass is there but its balanced with the rest of the frequency range.

2014 is our 12th year as a sound system, if anyone is interested you can check out our system at http://www.ninebarsoundsystem.com

I'm gagging to get the full system out for a dub step night so if any one is interested ring me for a deal!

I have heard a couple of really shitty engineered F1s. mostly harsh heights, which isn't exactly what you're looking for in a system.

the void stacks are sick btw.

Best:
Mungo's HiFi
VIVEK's System
RC1

Worst:
probably the crappy in-house system for some shitty high street club near me, that was so fucking wack. Also the past 2 times I've heard iration steppas have been VERY disappointing after hearing so much about it, piercing highs, virtually no mids and waaaay overpowered subs in relation to everything else
