Quick MidBass Inquiry...

Post by halifaxer12 » Sun May 01, 2011 1:20 am

I was hoping someone could tell me how to create that sound that Skrillex , 12th planet and those grime bass producers make; It's like the bass is being pitched up and down similair to this song I'm posting as an example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7jCF_qa9b0E This is an unfinished Skrillex track (his harddrives were stolen from his hotel in case any of you didn't know or care) and it's the screeching sound after the drop. It sounds like it's going up and down and a lot of producers do this but I don't know how to go about approaching this type of sound in NI Massive...i have a feeling it's a really simple technique that I just haven't discovered yet.

Well, if you're going for the pitch thing, obviously an lfo or envelope on the pitch could do it.

If there is one sound I hope nobody ever figures out how to make, it would be that one. If I see one youtube tutorial on it I will hunt down every single person who saw it and set them on fire, then I will kill the creator of the video in the most horrific way I can think of.

I hope to never hear that sound in a song ever again.

Yeah but do you have an example on how to do this in Massive? The only pitch I can see right now is the Comb filter...

Do you know what pitch means? It's the thing that makes the sound higher or lower. It's in the oscillators.

in massive, link envelope 1 to the sidechain slot on you oscillator (or all oscillators if you are using more than one) and then crank the number in sidechain slot way up. from there just experiment with your envelope shapes. (Ramping up and down is a good place to start)

you can do HUGE pitch bends (in both directions) and risers this way, with really quick/tight control of the sounds.

how about touring on another continent with all your HD's and laptops, losing a album in the process. Skrillex fail.

It's easy bro.. do you have Massive?

You wanna get a square wave, put it on the bend+/- setting or maybe the formant setting... then just put it through the 'scream' filter with lots of res and lots of 'scream'.

It really is very easy.. if you get stuck drop me a PM.
